Sandra's Story

Life I have updated my bio, as there have been changes in my life since I last wrote here. My companion, with whom I lived for 10 years, died 5 years ago. It was a terrible time for me but I got through it and now have my own apartment and a little Maltese dog who is my constant companion. My son is 34 now and I have 2 grandkids....Lilith, who is 6 and Orrin, who is 3. They all live in Boston. My daughter is 31 and is going for her BS in nursing. She lives in S. Philly. I am enjoying my retirement. I currently see several men and I like it that way. Life is good! School Not having been the most POPULAR person in school (as most of you probably remember) I dont have all that many great memories. However my fondest memories would have to be the times I spent on the stage in the school musicals and in the Concert Choir. Like the night of the Ray Conniff concert. We actually sounded GOOD, even though we hated the songs, he,he. I attended the retirement show for the late Ted Kloos some years back and still have the video and program from the show. It was an incredible night. I remember the first day of senior Gym. The teacher (cant recall her name) said there were too many girls in the class, so some of us could sign up for weightlifting. Well, I JUMPED at that..a chance to NOT have to run around in the cold OR the heat. Best move I made. I cant remember the woman's name that ran the weightlifing class..only that she was a PITA. One day she didnt see me, marked me absent and gave me detention. I was SO pissed! I went to Mr. Baba...who was our dean at the time...and told him I didnt cut the class. He believed me..he knew I wasnt the type to cut a class...but he HAD to take her word over mine. So I stayed after for the detention. But when I got there, there was NO ONE there. Now I was REALLY mad because no one would believe I was there. So, back I go to Mr. Baba the next day and tell him I went to the damn detention but no one was there. He just kinda rolled his eyes, as if to say "That figures", and told me it was ok...as long as I missed the bus I would be counted as having attended the detention and if there were any questions he would vouch for me. He was a nice guy :) I remember the FIRST Earth Day, too..I was a sophomore. We got volunteered into cleaning trash off the school ground and around the road near the school...what fun. Then we got bussed to the Arby's in Feasterville where we picked up trash from the hill next to the restaurant..again, lots of fun...NOT. I wish I could remember the name of my Social Studies teacher. I do remember that the kids used to say she posed for Playboy and she always wore miniskirts. She was a real trip! I remember Mr. Haas's science class, too. They stuck me in there when I couldnt handle the top science class. So they moved me from the smartest class to the dumbest. As a result, Mr. Haas decided to use me as his personal helper...he couldnt trust any of the other kids in the class. ...Expand for more
I used to grade papers for him and take stuff to the office. I got a B in his class without even trying. I was glad we only disected worms that year. :) And I remember when I was a sophomore the girls were protesting not being able to wear jeans to school. One girl, JoAnn Colbert...she had the guts to come to school every day in jeans...and got sent home every time. Well, I guess the administration got tired of sending a bunch of girls home every day for a year, so, at the end of the year, they changed the dress code and girls could wear jeans and slacks. I remember being SO excited about being able to wear jeans as a Junior. Now look at what they wear to school! And the Senior Commons room..we were the ONLY class that had it (they got rid of it the next year) It was nice to be able to go there instead of study hall. One day, near graduation, I was sitting with a couple other kids listening to the radio when I looked at my sandals and said I needed to get a new pair. This hippie kid told me not to..that they should be treated like an old friend. And suddenly I felt kinda guilty that I ever thought of getting rid of those sandals. Boy, have times changed!! :) College Went to BCCC off and on for years, but never got a degree. I haven't really missed that but did enjoy the time I spent there. Workplace I am currently unemployed. Not sure what I will do next. Jobs are hard to find and I cant do a lot of the work I did when I was younger....and TBH, I wouldn't WANT to. :D I always wanted to be a actress when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a dumb idea. As it turns out, they were probably right, but I still wish I could have done it.. Crocheting aned knitting are my favorite ways to relax...and its productive as well. I make some lovely things, most of which I end up giving as gifts. I am an avid Phillies fan. I watch every game I can and I even get to attend some games at the park because my bro has season tickets. Hoping they have a great season this year and sure would love to see them go all the way again. GO PHILS!! One thing I have learned from my children is that they don't need much encouragement to turn out better than YOU did :) If I won $100 million, I would probably spend most of it on my kids, so they would each have a nice home , on my other siblings and then me....and put the rest in the bank. Growing up in Levittown was the best! The perfect community. There were TONS of kids and we had a great time together. We didn't need a lot of special toys to amuse ourselves. And we were out more than we were in....a sharp contrast to today's kids. And no one was obese. We played games, even walked to the pool in Snowball Gate. I remember the first time I dove off the diving board there....it felt like a right of passage. My sis used to sun herself with the other teenage girls on the deck. It was just a great time to be a kid. A safe time, a fun time. We need kids to have that kind of life today.
