Sandra's Story

When I first got married my ex (just out of the Army) had a couple of mill jobs and kept getting laid off. Then his bro in law got him a good job after BABY BOY was born. But I should have known what he would be like when he wouldn't even pay $75 for a cz engagement ring.(I picked that out for 2 reasons,I didn't want him spending hundreds of dollars on a ring you would have to use a magnifying glass to see and it was a one carat nice size and did not look fake).Would you believe me if I told you that he never replaced it with a real one? He never considered the money he made OUR money always HIS. We rented for about 10 years because he didn't want the responsibility of owning a home.He didn't care what we lived in as long as it had a roof on it. I think he would have lived in a tipi or lean-to. We moved into our house in 77-78 and he didn't make any repairs on the house till 86. You would not believe the bathroom before that. The ceiling in our youngest son's bedroom caved in on top of his dresser because of a leak. And when he decided to fix the kitchen or paneling , he would do it as cheaply as possible. Using discontinued stock. The only thing he spent money on was for his comfort, tv, recliner, and couch. We did get a good carpet for the livingroom. A couple good things I can say about him was that he always paid the bills and we never starved. He spent the remainder of his money on himself. When I got my job at THE DEPT STORE ,I had to do b/days, Christmas, Mom's and Dad's days, and dress the kids, needless to say with my pittance, the kids were dressed from head to toe in seconds from TDS...Bless their hearts , each one had 2-3 pair of jeans that I had to wash every other day so they had clothes to wear (thank God I had boys and that they wore jeans and tee shirts...) Poor kids , never had a pair of Nikes like all the other kids. He made 4 times as much as I did and always complained about my min...Expand for more
imum wage job. When we first got married we really didn't have much money. All our furniture was hand-me-downs from other people. When we had meals I would always give him the Lion's portion and when he was done with that , if he was still hungry he would take food from my plate , even when I was pregnant. He was a gem! I stayed because of the vows I took and I didn't think anyone else would want me with three small boys. YOU WANTED A STORY...YOU GOT IT Who am I? Well, I'll tell you who I am not...I did not evolve from slime that crawled out of the ocean and no monkey is my uncle...Who are you? Relatively speaking I remember hanging around with this girl in highschool...we were friends for many years...it seems she was related to a famous guy...named Thaddeus Kosciusko...he was even written up in the history books... Well, I had some famous relatives myself...and they each had a book written about them...I think Daddy called them "Rap Sheets".... My favorite cuddley teddy bear was Uncle Vito "Knuckles" I think they called him that because he had more hair on his knuckles than on his head... Cousin Vinnie refered to as "the Mouth Piece" I think because he got braces when he was in his 40s.... Uncle Sally called " The Cooker" I guess because he made the best homemade pasta and sauce in the city..He would never let Uncle Vito help prepare the meals ...Told me it was because he didn't want to be picking hair out of the meatballs... Uncle Frankie "The Weasel" ...Daddy said he could always get out of a tight squeeze...I guess he must have been a wrestler.... Cousin Joey " the Pigeon" ...Daddy said he lived in a "Big House" far away...My guess is that he lives in a mansion and raises birds... Then there is the ever popular Uncle Art Fartsberg...oh wait a minute...he's on my mother's side...never mind...I only know what my friend once told me ..."You can pick your nose...but you can't pick your relatives"
