Sandra's Story
Hello everyone, Ive decided to write my profile in hopes that some of my classmates from the June class of 1963 will say hello.. I turned 63 this year as have many of you. After High School I went to Wayne State University whereas many of you ventured to Michigan, Michigan State and other schools away from home. Because of finances and no serious romance I joined the Navy Nurse Corps in my senior year of College. My first duty station was in a large hospital in Queens NY called St Albans. It had over 1000 beds, lots of medical interns, residents, and other military officers. It was like single heaven actually. The summer before I left for the Navy was incredible. Taking State Board exams to qualify as a Registered Nurse, and the riots in Detroit are vivd even after all these years. My classmates from WSU and I watched the rioting crowds, breaking windows and setting fires while we tried to review for our exam in our room in Lansing. Several of our classmates were trapped in the Intensive Care and Emergency Depts at Detroit General because it wasnt safe to leave the hospital. This resulted in them having to take their exams at another time. Driving to the Naval Station on the river, seeing only a few cars and truck loads of armed National Guard seems like yesterday. ble young men in uniform. After St Albans NY we were stationed in ?on Guam for 3 years. Thats where I had my son David. Although he and I did go back to the states when he was 9 months old, we didnt return again til he was 2 1/2. From there we lived in Bethesda Md, Camp Lejuene, NC; a, Marietta GA; Cedar Bluff,Ala. After 35 years of marriage, I voluntarily became a single lady. Adventure bound, I became qualified to work in England acquiring a position in a private hospital near Manchester. My son has been happily married for 16 years and lives near Atlanta with his wife Penni and my grandson Alex, age 15, 6ft 2 inches tall. Many summers have been spent following Alex's baseball passion. One of the best was in Cooperstown,NY the home of Baseball and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Out of over 100 teams, the Kennesaw Express came in 10th, playing and winning 5 games in a row on the same day. Being a grandmother and mother has been the best Blessing I have received. After 2 years of being a wild and crazy girl I met my present husband on match.com. A widower, from the Lakes District of England, he was in the USA visiting his daughter, became bored, went on Match.com and met me online. Did I say i was still living in England at the time? After several years of traveling back and forth for family visits and other traveling adventures we decided to settle in the States and get married. Presently we live in Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton,SC
