Sandra's Story
Life
My Life:
I think I got off to a bad start by marrying way too young while in high school and then having it end quickly(as if nobody saw THAT one coming!), but I am living in KC and loving it! Lots to do, see and experience. I have been all over this area for several years now. I am way ahead of where I thought I would be at this stage in my life... I am looking at retiring to a country estate in about 8 years - I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT!!!!
My Pets:
I have 3 cats... one is stupid, one is mean and one is lazy. What else is there to say? I have a friend who is trying very hard to get me into horses....we will see.
My Kids:
I have a son who is as charming and beautiful as any parent could wish for. He is very active (work, baseball and basketball). So far, he has taken after his mother... plenty of mischief. He is bright, but he is SO GREEN!
My Job:
I was a traveling contract nurse for Trauma/ICU for a couple of years after having worked ICU in Springfield for 7 years. I have worked in surgery, ER, cardiac, burns, trauma and respiratory ICUs around several states. I took a position in a dialysis clinic in KC a few years ago. I provided primary care as well as full...Expand for more
hemo dialysis treatments for my patients. After 3 years of that, I moved to home dialysis. I currently run the home dialysis unit in KC. We are the only facility to do the nocturnal dialysis treatments. I get to travel and teach other nurses and clinics as well as train patients to do their own care. I love this job.
School
High school was kind of a trip for me. I grew up too fast. At least I THOUGHT I did. I should have skipped the serious relationship thing and just had fun in general. I was in a big hurry to be done and all grown up and I forgot to play. I keep telling my son to slow down and enjoy it, but he seems to be very naturally linked to my own faults.
College
I hated college... everything about it. I did it because I needed to and I did only what I had to do to get my degree. I don't keep in touch with anyone from college and most likely couldn't tell you the name of a single class mate. Thank GOD it is over and I will never go back!
Workplace
I started in agriculture, moved on to food service, kept on going to medical and ended up in nursing. How in the WORLD that happened is beyond me. I currently run a home dialysis unit in Kansas City. Go figure!
