Sandra's Story

Completed 9th grade at Logan East Junior High School. Went to Logan High School for my sophomore year '64-'65. Would have been in the graduating class of Logan High '67 if my father hadn't moved my family to Buckhannon, WV, two days after my sophomore year ended. Completed my High School Diploma at Buckhannon-Upshur High School Class of '67. Got married 3-1-67, while I was still in high school. My first son was born 9-10-68. My second son was born 12-8-71. I remained married to their father for 25 years. We have three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. I was a Federal Revenue Agent, worked for the United States Treasury Department from 08-13-86 through 04-01-92, when I retired from Uncle Sam and moved to Knoxville, TN. I also worked for the WV Supreme Court of Appeals from 01-01-77 through 08-13-81. I left this position in order to go to college full time. Graduated from Glenville State College 05-05-85 (summa, #1 in my college class). Also won the 1985 WALL STREET JOURNAL AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING BUSINESS STUDENT. Remarried 11-12-95. My husband Jack and I live happily on an eight acre farm in the southern tip of Knox County. I am just about two miles from Sevier County TN. You know , very close to DOLLYWOOD, GATLINBURG, THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS, CHEROKEE NC, and on, and on, and on again!!! Would love to hear from any and all of my class mates from Glenville State College WV, Buckhannon-Upshur High School WV, Logan High WV, Logan East Junior High WV, Logan Grade School, McConnell Grade School, and Gilbert Grade School. Moving away from Logan nearly broke my heart. Would love to hear from Logan and Mingo Counties anytime. I am pretty much a "house hermit", and don't get out much. Of course, I do have many church friends and church family members. Including all of GOD'S FAMILY. I always wanted to be an Architect, but the probability of that came to and end 5-30-65. Then I wanted to be an author, that dream is very much alive and may be developed right away. When I graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, I wanted to be a homemaker and a mother. I accomplished that as well. Then I wanted to work for a Judge, I accomplished that. Then I wanted to go to college to be an attorney. I picked a good solid undergratuate major so I could bail out if higher education became too much for me. It did, I had a three story brick home and two teenagers when I received my Bachelors degree from Glenville State College. Forgot about being an attorney. WVU recruited me to be a teachers assistant in their new (1985 Masters in Accountancy) accounting progr...Expand for more
am. I would have had to teach 9 hrs. undergraduate classes in accounting, in addition to taking 16 hour on my masters. Forgot this. It was too far for me to commute from Sutton, WV to Morgantown, WV on a daily basis. Fortunately Uncle Sam also recruited me to work for the US Treasury Department assigned to the IRS as a Revenue Agent. Reagan had placed a freeze on government hiring, so I had to drag my feet until the freeze was lifted. I worked for Bill Bright in Summersville, WV from August 1985 until August 13, 1986. The freeze was lifted and UNCLE called and put me to work ASAP. I stayed with IRS until April 1, 1992. Retired and moved to Knoxville Tn. I did go by the Federal Building here in Knoxville in order to get a hardship transfer, but they advised me that they had no Agents of my high grade. If I decided to follow through on the transfer I would have to take a cut in grade and a cut in pay. Who needs that? Not me. I worked in a CPA firm in Maryville TN for nearly a year, and then I became the Corporate Controller for TYLER BROTHERS FARM EQUIPMENT in Maryville, TN. Stayed with Tyler Brothers until my doctor insisted that I had to quit or have a stroke. You see, by then, I had severe hypertension, persistent anxiety, insomnia, heart problems, kidney problems, autoimmune disorders, chronic pain syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, vascular problems and just plain too many to mention here in this limited space. So I resigned from Tyler Brothers April 1, 1999. Oh yea, I owned and operated an accounting firm "Poling Accounting Services", in Seymour , TN from 1993 to 1995. I had a few shoe-box clients, so I didn't do much work through my own firm. I can't deal with poor record keepers or shoe boxes filled with random paperwork, not to mention poor bookkeepers. I began taking care of my present husbands books in 1994. We didn't get married until 11-1-95, and I must say, after years of working for him, He is the WORST client I ever had. To this day, he asks for my advice on business matters and then he does the exact opposite. This burns me up. You see, he is challenged by my age, education, and experience. I am 7 1/2 year older than him and I believe he does these things to even the playing field. We own and operate Interstate Repair Service, Inc. So it appears that I went from one IRS to another IRS. I am disabled now and have not been able to work at full capacity since July of 2008. Was in the Hospital (several in Knox County TN) five times from September 17th to December 26th of 2008. Remember me in your prayers. PRAYER IS THE BEST MEDICINE in the universe. LOVE TO ALL Sandie (Vincent), Vincent-Poling, Grubbs
