Sandra's Story
Life
After I attended Benzie Central and graduated I went to work. I have been employed mainly in factory work. I have worked in food service, as a program assistant in elderly care, in home companion, and in food service.
I attended Youth With A Mission training schools in Tyler, Texas where I learned more about the nature and character of God and was involved in mission outreaches. My son, Michael, went with me and was invovled as well. We both made a decsion for Christ in 1988. And life has been quite different since then. Not with out struggles and hard things, but with A Savior and Friend that is like no other.
My son and I returned to Michigan in 1994. His father signed off his parental rights shortly afterwards. That is why we returned, it was the only way he would sign off, though there were other ways to do so. He lived here. Michael is now 21 years old and is trying to make his choices rightly in a difficult world. He has some health problems that make things difficult, he has had this since birth.
I am now divorced for the second time and living at my mother's house. She says she is worried about what will happen to her. She is now 76. My father has been gone since 1989. I live on Social Security Disaility due to health problems from factory work and other things that have happened over the years.
I have hope to reach out to the community through our food pantry at the Beulahland Wesleyan Church.
I am the person "in charge" of it. Under the pastor of course!
I have been involved in several misinstry opportunities since my return to Michigan. I have worked with children in the church, Home schooled my son, been involved in a jail ministry outreach to the local jail, Benzie County Jail, and was invlvoed in the prayer for the Jesus Video Project. My hope is to be a light.
I would enjoy meeting up with former friends and classmates to catch up on the last 33 years. i haven't a clue as to where everyone went. I have thought of you all often and wondered where live has taken you.
School
I attended Youth With A Mission Schools in Tyler, Texas after becoming a Christian in 1988. These consisted of Crossroads Discipleship Training School, School of Evangelism, and School of the Bible.
When I returned to Michgan I went to work in a factory. After being unable to work any more I attended Northwestern Michigan College for a time, though I did not complete the studies there. I could not go on after my divorce in 1999. My health was an issue as well. I did enjoy the studies, though they were a challenge after being out of high school so long! College
After becoming a Christian in 1988 I began to search for more of God and more about Him. I went on an Easter Out reach in 1990 that changed my life forever. I began to seek a school that would not only teach me more about God's nature and character, but one that would take me and my son on an adventure of missions for God and for His Kingdom. That is when I applied and was rejected by "Last Days." I could have given up and agreed that I was not to go. Instead I applied and was accepted by Youth With A Mission in Lindale, Texas. There I attended Crossroads Discipleship Training School where my journey to know God began to be a reality as I took part in a drama called "Toymaker and Son." It was not my style to get up in front of people, but God desired I do this and I do not argue with God. And my school leaders confirmed it when they asked me to pray about being in the drama. Thanks Don and Cathy Martin for your faithfulness to God and your obedience as well. Thanks also to Mark Evans for being kind and not questioning my concerns even though you probably did not know where I was coming from!
Then I attended School of Evangelism with Kip and Diana Gaines. It was a challenge to be in with all different ages after the slower pace of CDTS! But it also taught me a great deal. I did not think at the time that I was supposed to go to New Orleans, but now I see how God used it to prepare me for what I would face upon my return to Michigan. He knows better than I!
Then I was asked by Larry Allen If I would like to attend School of the Bible while I sat in on it. I said yes because of my desire to know God more. Thank you Larry! Even though I never completed this class I recieved so much from it!
Unfortunatly God had another plan for this time. He asked my to lay down the SOTB for my son to continue in Christain Heritage School. Who am I to argue with God? I obeyed. I really enjoyed all that I gained from this time and all the people I met through the SOTB. Thanks to all of you for the challenges and changes in my life. Hopefully one day I will be able to continue!
I came back to school at age 44! It was quite a challenge for me. I am glad for the study helpers that I had and for the English teachers that had me redo my work if it was not up to standards. I had hoped to go into fields using early childhood developement, but my health has chosen for me my limitations. I would have liked to completed these courses mapped out for me, but it turned into an impossible situation for me. I thank my intructors for their time and their God given talents. I enjoyed my fellow students as well. Thanks to you all!
