Sandra's Story
Hi!
Ever since Mr. Bauman's chemistry class I wanted to be an engineer. My family and friends thought that I was crazy. I made it through Metallurgical Engineering at Ohio State. Where I ran into George Kidd, Dave Sebek, Dave Audi, Mike McGreer and several others I am sure (my brain doesn't always seem to remember anymore!).
Spent five years in a blast furnace at Inland Steel and US/Kobe Steel then met my husband, Matt Thomas - an Operating Engineer --- heavy equipment that is --- a blue-collar union man. He moved me to Export, PA.
I hated Pittsburgh at first. After having grown up in Cleveland, then living in Columbus for college, then the large and diverse Chic...Expand for more
ago area... the small Pittsburgh suburb of Murrysville was too small for me. I have come to adjust... it is a nice place to raise a family.
I just hope I survive this parent thing! This is the toughest job I have ever had! Engineering school was so much easier!
So, since the blast furnace and marriage I have also worked for SONY and Respironics... most recently Children's Medical Ventures (a subsidiary of Respironics -- now Royal Philips Electronics). We spend our time dedicated to improving the outcomes for neonates... specializing in developmental care. I do sourcing and supplier quality. A far cry from metals! But, I love it.
