Sandy's Story
Life
Since leaving Centennial where I majored in Art and Modern Languages, I worked in the restaurant and catering industry for 7 years, attended one year of college language courses (Mandarin and French) and then got retraining into office work. I trained as computer technical support person and worked on the XI Int'l Conference on AIDS in Vancouver in 1996. My next job was with PMC-Sierra in Burnaby where I was the Technical (Evil) Librarian for 3 years.
I met my husband, Rob Queen on the internet. He is an Englishman who had recently moved from Philadelphia to Seattle. We met in person a week after our email correspondence began and we really hit it off. We moved in together 4 months later and got engaged. Rob, who is a mainframe computer programmer, was laid off from his job and after 6 months of no work, we decided to move to England where there was plenty of work for him in his field. We moved to Southport, north of Liverpool in May 2000 and li...Expand for more
ved there quite happily for 3.5 years. Once again, the work situation was looking dire so we looked around and Rob got a job and we moved to Letterkenny in County Donegal, Ireland in August 2003.
I hadn't done any art work since I left high school, due to the high demands of family and friends and other hobbies, so when I moved to England, I took the opportunity to take it up again. I have also trained in web design and JavaScript built my own website to keep in contact with friends and family at home. Of course I can't post it here because of classmates stupid rules about no website URLs.
Most recently I have started my own home-based business making and selling handmade souvenirs and jewellery made from local Irish shells and watercolour and acrylic paintings and photos of local Irish scenery - landscapes and seascapes. I would love to get in contact with any of my old Art, French and Creative Writing friends. Look forward to hearing from you soon!
