Would love to hear from anyone from my AF dependent years (particulary Koza BaptCh/Okinawa),high school, univ, Army days & since retirement. Belonged to MCC(pastored Valley Outreach 2 yrs), and Padre Island Bapt Ch where I taught VBS for several years and played my flute. Active in all phases of veteran life. School I only went to Armijo my sr.year:AF brat. I thought leaving the jr/sr HS that I attended for 4 years was the end of the world when we moved to Travis, but actually the opposite was true- I flourished around all the mil. kids and the cross section of cultures that we had at Armijo, and am very grateful to all you who so readily accepted me, and indeed made Armijo my home school despite the 4 years I spent at Severna Park jr/sr HS. Thank you so very much and I am looking forward to seeing you at the 40th reunion, hearing your stories. finding out especially about the communities you live in in 1 hr surrounding area, because I am thinking of retiring in the area- talk me into it. I would espescially like to hear from other singles, as we are getting older and often times are lonely, in need of a hug, and talking about our babies: our cats, dogs, birds, etc. and not about the proliferation of the world with every ones kids, grandchildren, great gc, married stories, etc. Actually despite all that I just said, I wouldn't trade the single life of independence, doing what when and with whomever I want whatever the hour, etc, plus the freedom to travel to places only where I want to go. But< I also want to see those of you who did marry...Expand for more
and talking about the good old days. God bless y'all. Sandy Phelps College At Univ of Mass, I feel like I majored in MARCHING BAND!!!!! However, I also played varsity softball, was a member of Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, Women's Athletic Assoc,a dormitory counselor, (and at times seeed to major in the college infermity/sick bay). I am especially apprectiative of all those who enhanced my educ/philosophy/ & leadership opportumities and skills. I truely believe UMass to be a top notch university and am thankful I had the opportunity to attend/graduate from UMass!! I have returned several times to the Amherst campus, mostly to participate in the alumni band perfoirmances at football games (ans to shuffle thru the beautiful fall foliage. I graduated from the Southern Baptiust Theological Seminary at a time when personal growth was emphasized along with total ministry: physical, social emotional, and spiritual/salvation. My education there was top notch also, and prepared me for obtaining successfully my MSW as well as my career field in the military. My only educational regret is that I did not complete my doctorate (which I studied for at the Univ of GA) in Recreation Education. However, to this day, I seek out and complete college courses both for personal and career development. Military I was a lifer, during the years of the draft, Vietnam, etc and took a lot of kidding from the draftees. I loved the military, being the first woman to accomplish many things such as the first female "soldier of the year" at the Academy of healh siences (at first called the medical field service school). first female honor graduate of NCO Basic course, going TDY for the Army to bowl and play tennis(many thanks to you guys who let me play tennis and bowl with you at Travis),etc. I loved my job as an instructor in the behavioral science/social work field and during that time, since the course gave mil. students credit from Baylor. I was an assistant prof on the Baylor faculty list of teachers. I went on to become a basic training combat drill sgt. Then, I got tired of the strenuos life as an enlisted person, and received a direct commision as a social work officer where I was the first female officer to be assigned as division social worker of an infantry division(the big Red One-1st inf div). Finally all those years of high school, college, Army sports and PT coupled with the time I spent as a drill sgt, took its toll on my body and I was given an early medical retirement for severe ortho problems/profiles and the depression that went with it. I loved Army life and challenges, discipline, and traditions. however I must admit I don't think I'd like todays military of humanatarin missions and wars. But, I have a lot of good memories and friends, especialy of the Womens Army Corps, and pride in my achievements and the doors they opened for todays mil women. Duty, Honor, Country!!
