Sara's Story

I lived in Fort Wayne and Nappanee, IN before moving to So. Carolina in 1988. Earned a master's from IU and taught at NorthWood High School and Homestead High School. I continued to take classes in a variety of subjects including English, computer science, counseling, and administration. My husband and I had a restaurant in Nappanee from 1982 - 1985. My husband's job with an oil company brought us to So. Carolina in 1988 where we have lived ever since. Jim retired in 2002 and suffered a stroke 6 months later. He died last Feb. from a variety of ailments due to his long-time diabetes. Before his illness became serious we were able to travel extensively in the US and in Europe seeing many of the grand sites of t...Expand for more
he world. I cherish those memories. Recently I have been pursuing a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy at the University of So. Carolina and am ABD (all but dissertation). I hope to finish next year after a 2 year hiatus because of Jim's illness. I continue to teach English at the high school level at Mid-Carolina in Prosperity, SC. I have AP Literature & Composition and Gifted and Talented endorsements. I teach AP, Dual credit, and Honors classes. I also teach a class occasionally at USC in the Language and Literacy/teacher training program. I traveled to the Grand Canyon last summer with my good friend Cheryl from Indiana (a NorthWood grad) and hope to travel to London to attend some matches at Wimbldon in 2010.
