Sarah's Story
Life
Hmmm...what can I say in 4000 characters that would adequately describe the path my life has taken. Unimaginable, incredible, ever-evolving. I spent a year and a half in Venezuela after finishing three years of college. I graduated from BYU in August of 2002 and got married in October 2002. After my husband graduated, we spent two years in Titusville, Florida, had a kid, and moved to Marysville, Washington. We only lasted a year and a half there, had another kid, and moved to League City, Texas. Me in a nutshell? Not even close.
School
I can't say that I really miss high school. It was fun while it lasted...but it was nice to move upwards and onwards. If anything, I do miss being so involved with extracurricular activities and the friends I made there. I'd love to hear from some of you.
College
I started at Brigham Young University with the intent to study Physical Therapy. I took a two year hiatus, between 1999-2001 to serve a religious mission in Venezuela. Upon returning, I discovered Therape...Expand for more
utic Recreation, and shortly thereafter declared it my major, with a minor in psychology. Therapeutic Recreation is a human service profession that assists people with disabilities by providing and adapting recreation activities to their needs. I graduated in August 2002.
Workplace
Prior to graduating from college, I completed an internship at Matheny School and Hospital in New Jersey. It was an awesome experience that taught me a lot about the strengths and abilities of people who because of disability use a wheelchair for mobility. Upon returning to Utah (I was engaged to be married), I found employment working at a Migrant Head Start Program, with Spanish children. I changed jobs and was a service coordinator at an agency serving individuals with disabilities until we left Utah. Once we moved to Florida, I took my time looking for a job, and the same week I found one, I also discovered I was pregnant. Since then, I have been a stay-at-home Mom, to two great kids, Rachel, born 2005, and Mikey, born 2007.
