Sarah's Story
Sarah Mary Hubacheck (later Higgins) was my grandmother and the oldest girl of 8 children. She came to the United States from the Austrian Hungarian empire (formerly Poland), which is now the Eukraine, with her parents in and around 1903. She later married John Higgins, a police sargent, known to most Cambridge people and lived in Cambridge till about 1960, where she raised three daughters and a son. She lived on 24 Notre Dame Ave., and for a short time worked at the Schrafts Candy factory. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, had a great sense of humor and was loved by everybody. lived with her daughters in Wilmington Mass, later Georgia and died in Phoenix AZ staying with her son. For a woman of limited means, she travelled half way across the world, and several of her great-grandchild bear her name. She was a religious woman, and the best person I have known in my life-time.. One additional point..after the death of my own mother in 2022, I found Sarah's class ring which was quite tarnished. I was able to bring it on a trip to the island of Tenerife where the ocean water returned it to a new and shiny state. What a great memento of Sarah, I now have. Lovingly, her grand-daughter, Barbara Collins
