Scott's Story

Life I'm currently married with 2+2 children (boy 9, girl 12, girl 13, boy 15) and living in North Carolina. My wife and I have been married coming up on 2 years now. My kids live with me full time and we share custody of the other 2 with their dad. Great story: We flew to the Bahamas with our kids to get married. Met up with some of the local ex-pats there on the golf course and as we were drinking I half-jokingly said, "I'm getting married tomorrow on the beach and it's just us with the kids. Why don't you and your friends come to the ceremony." They ended up inviting about 30 people from all over the island who brought us gifts, and we drank and danced the night away. When we got back to the states and tried to do all the paperwork changes (name, social, etc...) we found out that someone didn't sign the marriage license properly and it wasn't stamped. We weren't actually married! We ended up doing it at our house with all the neighbors and friends. I now have 2 anniversaries to remember and 2 gifts to buy, but I get 2 "anniversary" nights! The kids are great. The oldest step-son just lettered in track. The youngest is the catcher of his baseball team. My oldest step-daughter plays soccer and is REALLY good at ballet. And my youngest daughter is the smart one...She's only in 6th grade, but competes on the 8th grade math and book teams. Both girls are in the Beta Club (really smart kids). I was in the Air Force for 8 years and stationed all over the world and US; Virginia, Nebraska, Germany, Italy. I got to do the "fun" wars, Desert Sheild/Storm, Bosnia, and Sarejevo. I also got to travel a lot while I was in, mostly Europe. I got out in Omaha, NE and stayed there for a few years before moving back to CA. I actually lived in Fontana for a few years there, up in the new part - Hunter's Ridge, trying to ...Expand for more
become a .com millionaire in the LA basin, but, unfortunately, I still have to work for a living. I then transferred to a management position with my company here in NC, but left them last year to go back to consulting. Both my wife and I are in IT. She's a project manager for Hyster and Yale forklifts, and like I said, I'm an Oracle ERP Database Consultant with DARC Corp. I specialize in Oracle Applications E-Business Suite Technical Consulting. I've been in IT about 17 years now (I was a mission planning/intel programmer in the Air Force), and an Oracle consultant for about the last 9 years now. I have the perfect job. I get up, and "drive" 20 seconds to my home office. Stop on the way in the kitchen, make coffee (de-caff yuck!) and start my day. Every so often I hit traffic and work from my back porch by the swimming pool. It's brutal ;^) It's nice. I'm here when the kids get home, if they're sick, and, since I don't have "set" hours, I get to go to all of their class functions. And, the best thing about my job is that they don't care where I work, so, I've worked on the beach in Nassau, I've worked in a pub in London, pretty much anywhere I can get a wi-fi signal. I got addicted to golfing and Harley's when I left for the Air Force. I golf whenever I can, and ride the motorcycle whenever it's nice. I currently have a '02 Road King that I've modified. It's great. My wife is from the beach in the Outer Banks, and we ride up and down the coastline whenever we can (i.e. The kids are with their other parents). I got to live out one of my dreams last year - See Brett Favre play in Green Bay. We toured the hallowed grounds of Lambeau and even met the head coach who happened to walking out of the locker room when we were visiting. We then got up on Sunday for a tailgate party and game. It was incredible.
