Scott's Story
Life
Born: May 18, 1964, in San Francisco
Moved from San Bruno to Daly City in 1966, and spent the rest of my unhappy childhood there.
Graduated from Westmoor High, a.k.a. "Harvard on the Hill", in 1982, but really has never left school since.
Graduated from UC Berkeley in 1986 with an A.B. in Geology, then began the pursuit of a Masters Degree that lasted for 12 years, beginning at UC Santa Cruz in 1987 and ending at CSU Hayward in 1999. Then completed the Teaching Credential program (again at CSUH) in 2001.
Presently teaching Honors Physics and Chemistry at Lowell HS in San Francisco. Stu Mepham and Darrold Fredericks would be amazed (but not amused).
Living in San Francisco and still single. Not gay, just clueless.
School
Spent entire K-12 years in the Jefferson and Jefferson Union High School districts. Parents did not succumb to "White Flight" (although mom desperately wanted to).
Village Nursery School: 1967-1969.
Daniel Webster Elementary: 1969-1976.
Fernando Rivera Junior High: 1976-1978.
Westmoor High: 1978-1982.
Part of Westmoor's 25th Anniversary graduating class, graduating in "silver" gowns that made us look like Martians. My chief regret about high school: not runnin...Expand for more
g for student body president as a Communist ("Putting the UNION back in Student Union"). Proud moment: petitioned (albeit unsuccessfully) to have Shakespeare removed from the English curriculum. (Overrated Hack!) Also: CBDA State Honor Band, 1981 & 1982.
College Degrees:
A.B. in Geology, UC Berkeley, 1986.
M.S. in Geology, CSU Hayward, 1999.
Teaching Credential, CSU Hayward, 2001.
College
My undergraduate career at UC Berkeley lasted the requisite 4 years, culminating with my AB in 1986. Spent all 4 years as a commuter student, becoming intimately familiar with the BART tube. Our field camp project was mapping the California Coast Ranges near Livermore and east of Eureka. I was a mediocre student, posting a 2.7 GPA. After a year off, I started an MS at UC Santa Cruz, but got nowhere with it. Was in Santa Cruz during the 1989 earthquake. Continued as a part time student at CSU Hayward, finishing in 1999 with a thesis titled "Coarse Clasts of the Upper Miocene Contra Costa Group, West-Central California." I supported myself during this time as a substitute teacher and part-time cab driver. The former led me to earn a teaching credential in 1999. The bottom line: I JUST CAN'T LEAVE SCHOOL!!!
