Scott's Story
It has been a roller coaster ride since graduating Tennessee Temple High School (and not Tennessee Temple Academy) as it is named now. It was a great school and was priviledge to go there. With the graduation not far behind it was at this point I took the oath so that I may serve in the Navy. The savor is so sweet that military personnel can go out in the general civilian population wearing there uniform with pride. Having been in the Viet-nam Era, we as soldiers did not have that luxury and wore civilian (civies) off base.
But all that aside, trained at A School at Great Lakes for Operation specialist. After the training had orders to Report to the IWO. Got to the ship mid evening, January cold evening. Had to step back in awe, it was a big ship, it was nothing I had ever seen before. It was down right ugly. It looked like the midget version of the Saratoga, although the lines of the ship were still not as nice. Was told to go below and rack out.
Anyway after getting to know the staff, I was proud to serve under the command of a ship which had so much history.Went to more schools and trained, and by the way one of those trainings thPetty Officer first and ...Expand for more
Second class decided to take the rookies to the acey duecy club, for lunch, we got wasted and came back to the ship and after continuing the exercises and finding out we were wasted we were told buy the officer in charge to shut down the exercise, he was not at all happy and I wound up with the first hangoverand a sunburn. I went on 2 1/2 Mediteranean Cruises and 1 Carribean Cruise. It was not till I got of in in Naples, Italy via Rota, Spain to Philadelphia. There is one officer I wold just enjoy to meet Lt. Dietz Division Officer Operations, and Ltcdr. Jackson,of the same division
Came back to Chattanooga, and went to Public Works in chattanooga, got married and later joined the Chattanooga Fire Dept. I served 12 years in the
Fire Dept, rising to the rank of relief driver of a engine pumper. I was injured on duty and was later placed out.
Ive done everything from sales of vehicles to having my own construction business for 10 years.
I have been married 3 times, and to my last wife 14 years. Children are gone, and now enjoying the grandchildren, 4 of my own and 5 with my wifes children. Looking to revisit old friends and aquaintinance and traveling.
