Scott's Story
Catching up with Scott¿ the story. After graduating FLHS (75) it was off to FSU with roommate ¿Bull¿ Bob Lyons. I had 4 great years in Tallahassee and for all the partying came away with a degree in Criminology (79). I had decided while at FLHS to be a cop, hence nickname Kojak. Came home to Wilton Manors planning to marry high school sweetheart Laura Kane, only to have my heart broken <boo hoo>. I moped around for a few months feeling sorry for myself and then finally got busy and got a job with Delray Beach PD, March 1980. Did the typical cop thing and in 1982 married a waitress about the same time I made detective. Daughter Alyson was born in 1983 and I made Sergeant in 1984 so back to road patrol. Daughter Elaine came along in 1985 and then son Charlie in 1987. In 1988 I made Lieutenant and wound up running Internal Affairs (no fun). In 1990 I was almost promoted to Captain when an unexpected opening came up due to a suicide. I then remembered that one of the reasons I wanted to be a cop was to not get locked into an office and I haven¿t taken a promotional exam since. I have had a great time in my career as a result! I headed up our ¿Community Policing¿ initiatives back in the early 90¿s and saw a lot of changes in our City. The latter part of the 90¿s I ran our Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Section (that was a lot of fun). Still had that job on 9-11 and as part of the Intelligence function spent some time in DC and headed our Departments efforts with the initiation of Florida¿s Regional Domestic Security Tasks Force system. In 2003 it was back to uniform and road patrol again and finally at the end of 2007 it was back to Internal Af...Expand for more
fairs for my second stint in that position, (somebody¿s got to do it!). That¿s where I¿ll probably end the job next year (if they don¿t extend the DROP).
In 1992 I did another cop thing and got divorced¿ so that I could make large child support payments and have a good reason to work all those off-duty details. Seriously, that sucked but hey you know what they say, s¿ happens! The kids still turned out great! Alyson got married in 2006 and although she is hopping to make me a grandpa they are going to hold off for a couple of more years. She got her degree in Early Education from FAU and Masters from University of Phoenix on line. Her husband, (a Gator, something I try my best not to hold against him) is a professor at University of Cincinnati and Alyson has been substituting and hoping to land a full time teaching position next fall. Elaine graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and is working in research for Dr. Frangioni¿s Lab at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Charlie is in his last year (we hope) at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst majoring in Economics.
In 1994 I found the true love of my life and we married in 1995. Darcie was a reporter with a daily newspaper at that time covering local government but now works for a weekly business paper, the South Florida Business Journal, as the real estate editor. We live in Delray Beach and are the proud parents of a Shih-tzu named Ginger.
My brother Mark has two girls and they still live in Lauderdale. We lost Dad in 2000 to cancer. Mom now lives in Delray too.
I¿m betting I now have the longest ¿story¿ on Classmates!
