Scott's Story

School I attended Paraclete HS in Lancaster, CA, and had a few friends at Palmdale High and Quartz Hill. If I could change one thing about my time at Paraclete, I would have attended daily Mass and read Pope John Paul's Theology of the body! I graduated as an honor student from both Telecommunications Systems and Equipment Repair School in 1982 and from Electronic Computers and Switching Systems school in 1987. I was enrolled in the Community College of the Air Force and attended classes at Rose State in Oklahoma. Workplace Currently I am a Support Engineer with Ericsson Inc. In Plano, TX. I support WCDMA/UMTS wireless, as well as North American Wireline and International Transgate switches. Previously I supported CDMA2000, for Cricket Communications and Unicel (Formerly Known as RCC - Rural Cellular Communications). I am proficcient in IS-634/IOS 3.1.1, SS7, CCS7, ISUP, ISDN-E, IN and PLEX. Currently I am supporting the following products: WCDMA RAN for Cingular, T-Mobile and Rogers AT&T. GSM MSC for various Customers. UMTS/WCDMA CPP Radio Network Controller- RNC, Radio Base Station - RBS, and RXI. Wireless AXE Applications, including: UMTS/WCDMA CPP Radio Network Controller- RNC, Radio Base Station - RBS, and RXI. C-Ran and CDMA MSC, including CDMA2000 MSC, Qualcom Classic BSC, CDMA2000/CPP BSC. Wireline AXE applications including AS307/AS308, AS702.1 International Gateway, AS704 IN, UKLE4, TL3, and TL4. Military After Graduating from Paraclete High School in 1982, I enlisted in the United States Air Force. My first duty station after Technical training was Osan AB in Korea, the 2146 Communications Group. Mostly we repaired old model 28 Teletype machines and TSU-28 Automatic polling stations in various weather centers in northern Korea. Our highest priority was the API printer for the commander of the 51st fighter squadron. This is where I met Paul Michael Scarantino, my first boss and one of the best friends I'll ever have. After Korea, I was sent to the Third Combat Communica...Expand for more
tions Group, at Tinker AFB, OK. Over the years the 3rd was renamed several times. We had the nickname The Third MOB when I arrived in March of 1984 as it was designated the Third Mobile Communications group in the 1960's and had the motto "Worldwise Communications." The symbol was a wise old Owl, which was changed to an Owl in the attack position by our commander Colonel Phillip Lurrie. It changed status to Combat Communications during the Vietnam War, and the name changed to 3rd Combat Communications Group. In the late eighties a new commander, Col. Randy Witt, thought MOB sounded unruly and changed the name to "Third Herd". As we had the reputation of providing quality communications "anytime, anywhere" and had caught the eye of the TAC commander, it was decided that we would become a "model unit". In the MOB, I maintained the AN/TGC-27 Mobile Communications Center and DSTE Center. We were one of the first to uppgrade to UGC-129 teletypes in the mid eighties. I returned to the 3rd Herd, as it was then and continues to be called, and eventually became the maintenance crew chief for the AN/TYC-39 Message Switch, and helped out with maintenance on the AN/TTC-39 Telephone Switch. Later on I took on the responsibility of COMPES manager for the AN/TYC-39. I was the person who determined that all TYC-39's required a maintenance shelter to be deployed with the system. If you enjoyed the benefits of having this "luxury" you can send me a note of thanks. I stayed in the Air Force for eight years, during which time I lived in two countries, and three states. Including a trip to Panama in 1988 courtesy of President Bush, Operation Nimrod Dancer. I really enjoyed the Air Force, and all the people I met while serving our country, but I felt constrained by the rigidity of military life and needed to grow more personally and made the decision to get out when my enlistment was up in 1990. In June of 1990 I received a few offers and decided to take a job as an Installation Test Engineer for Ericsson (See my work Bio)
