Scott's Story

Life Well well well... what to say? Twenty two years since graduation. Quite a bit has happened in all that time, and most anyone reading this wouldn't want to wade through it! So I'll make this brief, the Readers Digest version. I moved a few times out of highschool. One stint to Pittsburgh, but stayed mostly local. If you think finding work in this area was bad, try finding a job in Pittsburgh in the mid-80's! They selectively hired at fast food joints! So ... back to NY for me! Which was a good thing it turns out! In '89 I got a job working with developmentally disabled adults at UARC. The pay stunk, the hours weren't much better. But after working there a few years, I met the girl who would become my wife. We got married in '91 and had a daughter in '92. We had a house in Port Ewen. It was small, and we kept talking about moving into something bigger. In '97 we had a son, and we're still stuck in this little house which was just big enough for the two of us to begin with! By this point I was working as one of those copier repair guys that comes to where ever you happen to work. The pay was a little better then ARC, and so were the hours. To pick up some extra cash I started working a few nights a week at Wards in Poughkeepsie. A friend of mine ran the electronics department. It was there that I ran into "Pappa" Joe (Avampato - Highland class of '87). The two of us and a third friend put together a web development/hosting business. Because I had the opprotunity to design a lot of websites and work directly with web servers, I learned a lot. By 2000 I had my resume back out on Monster and after interviewing at several places in Manhatten, (including the 74th floor of the WTC Tower 2 - thank God I didn't take that job!). I finally took a job with a large company in Westchester as a web content author. I've been working there ever since! Though after eight years and a couple promotions I'm now a Senior Systems Developer! In 2002 we finally sold the Port Ewen house and bought some property in Esopus (near where I grew up). In 2003 we moved into our newly built home! Finally, room to spare! The past few years I've been mainly working on the house, and occassionally playing some music. I built a recording studio in my house. I did it mainly for personal enjoyment, but I'm hoping I can record some local talent. (If you've got a band and want to record some songs - give me a shout!). Other then that, life marches on. My daughter is now a teenager! Yikes! She's driving! Double Yikes! And she's playing the bass guitar! Sweet! My son's in middle school and is now playing little league baseball! Cool! Nice thing is they're both high honors in school. Other than an occasional chat with Opie (Andy Palmiotti), I pretty much never see or talk to any of my old highschool classmates. But I'm up for chatting/emailing with anyone that wants to say hello! Heck, most of u...Expand for more
s class of 86'ers spent over 2000 days together, growing up in that small little school district from kindergarten through graduation. We've all changed and lived our lives since then. Maybe moved away, maybe have a family. But sometimes it can be fun to take a minute or two and reminisce about some of those old times that happened in and around the Highland school district. If you ever feel like it, shoot me an email! School Biggest Crush?! lol. I probably couldn't even remember the names without checking the yearbook! Let's see, she had brown eyes and dark hair. Wait a sec ... that's 98% of the Highland girls! Inspiring teacher? Mr. Metzler. The guy could one minute be doing the most difficult math computations on the board, then turn around and step his foot right into his garbage can the next. He'd take two steps with this garbage can stuck to his foot, never breaking his sentance, before he realized it was even there! He was a great teacher and a great guy. Genius - but infinetly human. Would I do it over again? Only if I could end up right were I'm currently at! I'm probably one of the few people who mostly enjoyed my school days, even being a nerd! There's a lot of things I'd like to be able to do again or perhaps differently, especially with 20/20 hindsight. But I'm also probably one of the few people who's genuinely happy with their life at this point. My job is great, my wife and family are great. There's little I want changed, so why try doing it again? That's what grabbing a beer and reminiscing with old friends is for. Because I'm not sure what the statutes of limitations are on some of the wacky things I did or bore witness to, I'd best not get into any of that! But for those few of you who may remember, maybe these will spark a memory and a smile. My father asked me one Saturday morning "Scott, why is there a mailbox at the bottom of the driveway?" Marty Brodsky asking/yelling, "... AND WHO THE HELL IS FESTER TESTERBESTER?!?!?!?!" Mayday ... "Exit .... Get Out..... LEAVE" LOL! Mr. Cioppa after our 8th grade picnic "Did you drink any of it?" Hood and roof "surfing" down Lilly Lake Road. Just how many cops were there looking for us on that stroll back from New Paltz?! And remember "If one of you gets caught - I wasn't with you!" LOL. (Every) Friday nights at Friendly's. Snow White and his Schwinn 928. "Eat some carrots you fat...." "Hey Mike, I dare you to lick that bug off the windshield" as we cruise down I80 in PA, going about 75MPH. So he rolls down the window, pulls himself up onto the door, leans over the windshield (keep in mind we're still cruising down I80!), and ...! And who can forget the infamous 'zipper dancer' as we played those "special" dances. LOL! Which kinda reminds me of the "Dead Milkmen" - Driving down the road - stepping on the gas; Goooooing to the zoo! ... lol Man, for a bunch of nerds - we sure had some fun!
