Scott's Story

Summary: After graduation from high school, I attended Wheaton College and Wheaton Graduate School. In addition to my major courses of study, I studied as much applied piano and pipe organ at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music as I could without declaring a major, and I took almost a minor in Spanish. I received a BA in Biblical Studies and Christian Education from Wheaton College in 1974, and a MA, with Honor, from Wheaton Graduate School in 1976 in Christian Leadership, concentrating in Christian Ministries, Missions with a Hispanic emphasis, and Interpersonal Communications. My graduate studies equaled three Master's Degrees, one in each of these concentrations. I worked for the State of Oregon for over 20 years, first at State Accident Insurance Fund (SAIF) in their Claims and Underwriting Divisions, and then, for most of my carrer, I worked for the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs (ODVA) as a Training Coordinator, Productivity Management Specialist, and an Accounts Services Technician. I also served as a church organist for more than 20 years, until my first of three strokes in January 1999, which left me paralyzed on my right side. Unable to play, I now compose and arrange original sacred, classical, instrumental, and choral music. I have served churches as Assistant and Lay Pastor, Worship Director, Choir Director, Director of Missions and Outreach, Sunday School Teacher, organist, pianist, keyboardist, and piano teacher. I currently am a Member-at-Large Emeritus with and past Dean of the Salem, OR Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), Co-Leader of the Salem, OR Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group through the Salem Hospital and Salem First Church of the Nazarene, retired Member of the Disability Services Advisory Council for Northwest Seniors and Disability Services after more than 5 years of service, and I participate on the Homebound and Shut-in Ministry Visitation Team for my church. I still sing with my church's choir ministry with more than 20 years of service. I have written two books, My first book was my first attempt to address the subject of salvation entitled, "From Fear to Love: The Process of Salvation." With my second book, I completed my salvation study by expanding my first book entitled, "FROM FEAR TO LOVE: THE PROCESS OF SALVATION ~ New Expanded Edition," and making it available to all upon their email request. In response to their email request, I will send them a PDF Document of my book and related info to the email address they specify in their email request. Also, as a composer and arranger of sacred and classical music, I have a website that includes all my music and through which I hope to make my music available for free to any who can be blessed by it; and minister to people in any way I can. Again, I can send more inf...Expand for more
o about my music along with my free book (please see above) upon receiving an email request. I have been married to my wife and caregiver, Sharon, for over 38 years. She is a very talented pianist, flautist, and sings a strong alto. She also owns two businesses: "Sharon's Sweep 'n' Shine," specializing in deep-cleaning and housekeeping, and "Evergreen Enterprises Unlimited," which is an international distribution company for XanGo (TM) Mangosteen products. As XanGo has recently been sold to Isagenix, she no longer markets XanGo products, but we still use them and refer others to do likewise if they are interested.. The Lord has blessed Sharon and me with four children: 2 boys (Shawn and Steve) and 2 girls (Sarah and Shanna), and 6 grandsons and 7 granddaughters. Shawn married a wonderful gal named Christena and they have 3 boys and 1 girl. They are missionaries in Slovenia and work with the youth of that country. On July 11, 2009, our oldest daughter, Sarah, was married to Lewis Reinhardt. They have 3 girls and 1 boy. Then in October 2013, our youngest son, Steve, married a beautiful lady, Jordan, and they together have 2 boys and 1 girl. Finally in August 2016, our youngest daughter, Shanna, married a dashing Marine, Daniel, and they have 2 daughters. All our wonderful children actively serve the Lord. Specialties: I've participated in Union negotiations, wrote the documentation for a successful job re-class, was elected Precinct Committee Chairperson, was elected as a State Delegate to the State Republican Convention, helped to write the State Party Platform; created stop lists for future pipe organs; demonstrated and sold organs for several music stores; and also designed a luxury home and helped build it in West Salem, OR. Health-wise, the news is not so good. As stated earlier, I have had 3 strokes following my 3 heart attacks. The first and third strokes affected my right (dominant) side. That third stroke happened during my son's (Steve's) wedding reception. That same year, in July, I had my second stroke after my cancer surgery. It affected my left (nondominant) side. Together, these stokes have left me mostly paralyzed on my right side, and very weak and uncoordinated on my left side. Also, with my second and third strokes, I have developed paresthesia. I have also been diagnosed with myopic retinal degeneration which has been surgically addressed, cataracts, and dry macular degeneration (incurable). But the good news is that I published 2 books and have written many 1,000s of pages of music! Also, I purchased a large 3 manual and pedal digital pipe organ to use as therapy for my left hand and foot and to compose and arrange organ music for the left hand and foot only, something that surprisingly has never existed before! What a joy it is to serve such a great and awesome God!
