Sean's Story
I've been thinking quite a bit about the fact that we graduated nearly 40 years ago. I have had essentially zero contact with CV classmates since graduation, or at least since college graduation 4 years later.
Is there going to be a 40 year reunion? If so, will I come? Who knows the answers to these questions. TBD I suppose.
Given that basically no one from CV knows what happened to me, I give my very abridged version of my story.
After CV graduation, I attended Carnegie Mellon. I planned to be an architect, but it turns out that I had zero talent for that. I still graduated 4 years later with a degree in History, which is good for ...? (CRICKETS CHIRPING).
My dad suggested law school as a potential option given that it opens up doors. I agreed and took the LSAT, did well enough, and got admitted into law school at the University of Minnesota, which surprisingly is a top notch law school. I figured 3 years in Minnesota and then back to the Burgh. Within a month, I knew Minnesota was for me.
I graduated law school, passed the bar, clerked at a court for a year and then started my career as a lawyer. 2 short stints at firms that were not fits for me, and then the dream job in 1992, which required me and my new wife to move 150 miles even more north to Duluth. For those who do not know, Duluth is a gem. Yes, it gets cold at times, but what a great little city.
My career went great. I practiced representing injured and disabled people in workers compensation, personal injury, long term disability, and social security disability cases. I had a huge case load and was considered a pretty good lawyer by my peers. My wife and I had two awesome kids. I coached them in baseball, softball, and soccer for about 15 years and remain friends with many of the parents and kids (now young adults) to this day.

ll. We tried hard, for a long time, but eventually we divorced about 5 years ago. She left Duluth, but I stayed. My career continued to do well, met a new women who is about as great a person as I could ever imagine. Then about 3 years ago I was appointed by the Governor to be a Judge on the Minnesota Workers Compensation Court of Appeals. That meant a return to the Twin Cities as the Court is in the capitol - St. Paul. In the 3 years since moving to the St. Paul area, I got married to the awesome woman and have had a blast being a judge. (No - I do not get to throw people in jail nor bang a gavel, but it is still a wonderful job, and likely the one I will hold for the next 10-15 years).
My kids are mid-20s now. One is starting school this fall to become a Radiological Tech. The other is a nurse with plans to be a health care administrator.
As in high school, I remain short of stature. Unlike high school, I no longer have thick wavy hair, and have been basically bald since my late 20s. Guess how much money I have spent on shampoo and hair cuts in the past 25-30 years. ZERO. So there is that.
I occasionally come back to Pittsburgh, but the only family I have there is my brother Andy. My last visit there was about 4 years ago. My other two siblings, Heather and Todd are in California and New Mexico. My parents moved to Florida about 8 years ago, and then my dad passed away about 5 years ago. So when I do travel, it is usually to see my mom. My wife wants to visit Pittsburgh, however, as she has never been. Plus, it would be good to go to PNC and see some of the old sites. That is likely to happen soon - so maybe a 40 year reunion trip is in the works???
For those who actually remember me, thanks, as I never considered my high school years to be such that others would actually remember me.
Hope you are all well.
