Shanda's Story
Hello all, I have been married since 2001 to a great guy named Drew. He has two daughters from a previous marriage (Ceara and Amanda) who are now teenagers and live with us full time as of two years ago. I just recently gave birth to my first child back in November. Austin was born on November 14 at the new maternity ward in the Nanaimo General Hosptial. I love Austin dearly and I couldn't imagine a day without him now.
I am currently on Maternity leave until 2009, but when I am working I am at "PacificCARE" which is a child care resource and referral Centre in Nanaimo. We help Child care providers become 'registered' on our program so that they can get referrals (we also help to regulate care ...Expand for more
providers who are unlicenced, also know as Licenced not required). We provide these Child care facilities with opportunities such as workshops to further their education, access to a toy lending library, assistance from a consultant if they need it, business liability insurance and more recently access to benefits packages for their facilities. We also help parents find daycare (with the 400 careproviders listed on our program), and for those parents who require it we distribute the child care subsidy forms and sometimes assist the parents in filling out these forms and faxing them off to the government. love working at PacificCARE it's one of the best places that I have had the opportunity to work.
