Shane's Story
I was born in Plattsburgh, NY in 1978. My parents divorced in 1983 and I moved with my mother and two sisters to Klamath Falls, OR in August of that year. I lived in and went to school in Klamath Falls until my high school graduation from KU in 1996. I worked that summer at Jeld-Wen and McDonalds and then come September I went to Western Oregon University in Monmouth,OR and started college. The goal was to be a teacher but in 1999 after three years I realized I didn't have the patience for it. I changed my major to history and transferred to Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR where I got my bachelors degree in History in 2001.
After graduation i tried to find something in southern oregon but nobody was willing to hire me. i applied online at a few places and got hired by Crawford and Company to be a claims adjuster. to Klamath falls, bought a car, threw all my belongings in the car and drove to Omaha, NE where I was to start my job as a claims adjuster.
I worked in Omaha, NE for two months. I was one of two people in a dedicated unit. We worked for one client out of their location. My supervisor decided to take a position in Sacramento leaving me alone. I didn't have enough experience at that time to run the unit myself so the unit was disbanded and I was relocated to St Louis, MO on November 30, 2001. I've lived in St Louis and its suburbs ever since. I currently continue working as a claims adjuster.
I left Crawford and Company in 2012 and took a similar job with a smaller company--IPMG. I have been with them ever since.
I got married in 2013 and had a son in 2018. My wife left me in July 2021 and we are in the process of getting divorced.
For those who do not know, I am transgender. I came out officially to everybody in August 2021 and have lived fulltime as a female since September 2021.
