Sharon's Story
Life
I was a chef in Seattle and NYC restaurants until recently; after studying at Pratt School of Fine Arts majoring in sculpture and installation I moved back to Seattle at the end of '04 to finish at Cornish College of the Arts. I am hoping to stay in the area and eventually work on my Master's in Fine Arts. In the meantime, I've been collaborating with other local artists in the area to create a collective for emerging young talent. I'm still actively involved with many East Coast communities and organizations involving small farms and restaurants to promote healthful, local, sustainable and organic (and in the case of animals, humane) agriculture and a low-impact lifestyle.
School
I actually dropped out of high school in tenth grade and began to pursue my career as a chef shortly thereafter. I...Expand for more
worked on art and music for most of that time and didn't do a lot outside of advancing my career.
I finally went back to Seattle Central Community College in '96 to start my path to the arts, but only got about a year in as I was distracted by my advancing career as a chef. I worked all over Seattle and settled into a sous chef position at Lush Life. A year later, I was in a truck with all my belongings driving across the country to live in Manhattan!
A few years later, I decided to go for my lifelong goal of getting a degree in art. In 2002 I began at Pratt School of Fine Art and finished my last year in Seattle, earning my degree in sculpture at Cornish College of the Arts.
After six long years in New York I've moved back to Seattle, and it's good to be here once again in my beautiful hometown.
