Sharon's Story
Life
Married 48 years to a wonderful man, Gene, who is "native" Californian. I have lived in California since 1963 and l feel like a "native" Californian, too! After leaving Clearwater in 1963, I have lived in several places, all in the SF Bay Area, longest in Menlo Park. When Gene retired from the US Geological Survey, we moved to Sutter Creek and lived there from 1993 to 2001 when we moved to our present home in San Andreas. These last two towns are in the "Gold Country" of CA.
We have two children: Sherry, 52 and Stephen, 45. Have one granddaughter, Alexandra Nicole (Alex), 28 who is married but separated and lives in Solvang, CA, and one grandson, Gregory Eugene (Greg), 25, who is single but in a serious relationship. He is in the Air Force in EOD, which is disarming weapons.
I learned from my children that no matter what you do and happens as they grow up/, they will be who they want to be. I am blessed that our daugther, after some "terrible teen years" turned out to be a fantastic woman mother, wife and person. I am very proud of that. Our son, is mentally handicapped and he will always be my "little boy" even though he is an adult. He surpassed all the doctors ever said he would be able to do. I am very pleased!
I am an RN but haven't been able to practice my profession since 1984, due to a back injury.
I love counted cross-stitch, reading, esp. mysteries, biographies, Civil War history & historical novels, (about the Scottish or Civil War eras.) I enjoy genealogy, surfing the Internet and try to stay up to date with local, state, country and world news.
I am now in the process of starting a web-based business and will be selling scarves, beaded items and custom made baby blankets. My business is called Designs by Shar-El, It is now up and running! Though I am still working on it now that I have a good camera! Google the above name and pick the one with the San Andreas address listed!
My favorite way to relax is to listen to "old music favorites" do counted cross-stitch and work on my business items.
I also am trying to stay as active as possible! I did ...Expand for more
volunteer work for a non-profit wildlife organization--"Tri County Wildlife Care." I have been both the Secretary and Director of Public Relations in my 15 years with them. One year I was named "Volunteer of the Year." I was on the Board of Directors. I really enjoyed being part of a group that is so concerned about our local wildlife but after 20 years volunteering and 17 years on the board, I decided it was time to move on with other things but I will always keep up with what is going on with the group, as I feel part of it, since I have been with it from the beginning! They now have a web site: Google: tricountywildlifecare Hope you can visit it and see what we are all about.
I always wanted to be a nurse even as I was growing up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Wendell Oals, because he owes me a dinner (long story!) I'm still waiting for it after all these years and am determined to get it. I have seen him, bit still need to get that dinner!
I lived in a nursing dorm during my nurse's training. There are just too many stories to share here. You would need to corner me sometime and ask me!
My current age is 71. When I was 12, I thought that people who are my age now would be very old and unable to do much for themselves. I was so, so completely wrong. Although I have decided that the "Golden Years" are not necessary "golden"!
I would really love to see Mr. Stills again. He was my American History teacher and then I was an assistant to him in my Sr. year. He really inspired my love for Civil War history.
If I won $100 million," I'd give half of it to government!!!", then spend the rest on favorite charities, my chidren and ME!.
My first job was at Mease Hospital, where I got paid $150 per month and was a nurse's aide. What I remember most about it is how much I was going to love nursing school and becoming an R.N.
I hope to be able to make the trip to FL in May for our 55th class reunion. I would love to see everyone since I missed the 50th reunion..
