Sharon's Story

I'm still singing, after all these years! lol After high school, I went on to Azusa Pacific University where I majored in music. I also traveled for two years as the featured soloist with the "Continental Singers." We traveled during the summers, all over the US, up into Canada and down into the Bahamas. That was a wonderful experience, to say the least! Then I got married, had two children, and put my music on hold until my kids were teenagers. Itching to get back to it, I started hitting the local jam sessions & talent contests, and learned to play guitar & bass. (I had already learned piano as a child.) I found my voice again & started my own band, "Bootleg County." We performed all over the Inland Empire, playing Country, Blues & Classic Rock. During this time, I also needed to pay the bills!! So I worked as a legal secretary, as an executive assistant at Norton AFB, and as middle management for 12 years with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in Fontana and Riverside. Then, after Kaiser burned me out, I did various odd jobs (accounting, desktop publishing) until I got back on my feet again. (Did I mention they burned me out?!) I finally retired from UC Riverside, where I "did time" in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Advising Center. I am now back to playing electric bass and singing once again! My passion!! I'm in a band called "Southern Star," and we play regularly at the Rialto Senior Center, where we draw a pretty darn good crowd on Thursday mornings. W...Expand for more
e also do paid gigs whenever they come around, which isn't very often these days, maybe once or twice a month. Too many DJs and Karaoke machines have put us live bands right out of work! I guess we're a dying breed... But we have a blast and consider the freebies as "paying it forward" (or back, however you look at it. lol). My hobbies: Making jewelry and crocheting. I love being creative!! Mostly, I sell the earrings that I make at Benefits (fundraisers) for fellow musicians. I'll donate a few afghans for those events as well. But most of the afghans & baby blankets I crochet are donated to local hospitals, including LLUMC Children's Hospital, Jerry Pettis Memorial Veterans' Hospital, San Bernardino Pregnancy Center & Santa Claus Incorporated, to name a few. Oh, of course I make them for family & friends as well. You know what they say about idle hands... =) Anyway, I LOVE being retired!! And my lead guitar player is the love of my life!! We've been together now for 23 years. <3 I'm on Facebook under Sharon Gibson Lepore, on Twitter as BootlegCo, and I'm also on Pinterest. Add me if you want & we'll catch up. Sorry... can't afford to go to the costly reunions, but I'd love to see you again. Come out and watch us play sometime! I promise you'll have a great time! They won't let me post my email addy on here, but it's: bootlegco at roadrunner dot com. As my granddaughters would say, 'Hit me up!" lol Well, that's about it in a nutshell, albeit a rather large nutshell!! Ha!
