Sharon's Story
After Carroll, I went to North Seattle Community College for 2 years and then onto Eastern Wa St College (now University) and finished my degree in Theater. I know you are all surprised about that. Left Eastern before graduation day (but after completing degree) to take a job at a Summer Stock theater in Bellport Long Island, NY. Was that a bit of culture shock. Even survived a hurricane that summer. I thought our wind storms in Yakima were worse. I was one of 3 folks at the end of summer who had a job(except for the students going back to school). I took a position in Princeton NJ at the McCarter Theater(similar to Seattle Rep)as part of their Props Department. I specialized in running props for productions. Met lots of fabulous people including Julia Roberts brother Eric. After 2+seasons cost cutting and a union flareup left me in Princeton without a job. Managed ...Expand for more
to get some temporary work with a Market Research firm and learned the basics. Decided to head back West the summer of 1979 and landed in Seattle. That fall got hired as a temp at the Bon Marche to do a sample pull and 29 years later and numerous name changes (the last being Macys) I was laid off with the rest of the Corporate employees for our Division as it was merged with MacysWest in SanFrancisco. My final day was in October of 2009 and hired on with Eddie Bauer the beginning of November in their Sales Accounting dept. Unfortunately the economy and retail were/are dismal and I was laid off again at the end of January 2009. In April I started school to get an Advanced Business Software Specialist certificate as well as update my skills in Microsoft Office 2007. So far so good - holding at a 4.0. Also continuing the job hunt so if anyone has any leads let me know.
