Sharon's Story
Eight grade was a difficult time; I remember feeling pretty insecure. I think I was probably pretty goofy! I had chipped front teeth then and I remember Mr. Stewart putting me in a slow readers group, which was devastating. I also remember I got my new thick glasses and I hated them! I was certainly blind and needed them badly though.
After graduating from Grant School, I attended Roosevelt for 2 years and moved; my family relocated again and I graduated from Fox High School. At Fox, I did not connect as much as with Grant School because I just did my Senior year there, but I did enjoy singing in the Sr. Girls Glee. A year after HS, I joined the Army and spent 3 years to get the GI bill. I then attended college at SMSU and CMSU, receiving a BS and MS, and worked in the field of Social Work/Gerontology. I continued to serve in the Army Reserves...Expand for more
on weekends throughout college and beyond. I eventually went back into the Army and served 8 more years on active duty until my father became ill and I returned to the area. I retired as a Master Sergeant from the US Army Reserves in 1998.
I returned to work as a social worker in hospice and a Senior Center for a few years but left the field and am an editor now with a pharmaceutical publishing company. I am divorced and have no children, but love my sweet cat Boots.
I remember Pam Mc, Patricia and Carolyn R from Grant School very well. I also remember Sandra (I think that was her name) and her artistic talents, which still inspire me today.
I enjoy doing crafting projects. read books, weave baskets and make toothbrush rag rugs in my spare time. I also sing in the St. Louis Metro Singers.
Would love to reconnect with my Grant school classmates.
