Sharon's Story
Life
To go way back to 1966, I was engaged, but obviously didn't marry him. Moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1968 to get my MS in Education at University of Dayton. Decided I needed some money so I applied to teach at Tecumseh Local, a rural bedroom community. I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades there for 30 years.
Then I retired and worked as a department manager - domestics - in a large retail department store. Left that after a year and went back to teaching. I was a Title 1 Reading and Math tutor at Dayton Catholic Elementary School working with 1-8 grades for 6 years until the school closed. From there I went to the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio as the Education Coordinator until this past November 2, 2009 when my job went away due to budgetary constraints. In January, 2010 I started working part-time as an Educational Specialist at WACO Historic Air Museum in Troy, Ohio, about half an hour from Dayton. I retired from that position after a year.
I am completely retired and plan to stay that way [Ooops, not yet.]. Guess I just can't stay retired! I have w...Expand for more
orked as a Teacher Candidate Supervisor at Wright State University for the past 5 1/2 years. I really enjoy working with the new educators.
I don't play tennis anymore. I broke my ankle in 2014 and had to stop playing tennis. I still have 2 screws holding it together. It took a total of 3 surgeries to get me walking again. I was in a nursing home for 6 weeks and the awesome therapists had me walking soon after the doctor took the external fixator off. Now I hike and swim for exercise.
For 27 years Chuck was my significant other. He worked in the computer technology field as a "headhunter". Ten years ago he had surgery that left him a quadriplegic, and that really changed our lives needless to say. We moved from a huge house on an acre to a one floor large condo so he could use his wheelchair. He passed away on June 6, 2007. Not what I thought I'd be doing with my life, but it's what God gave us.
Since then I've traveled to western Europe; the Caribbean; Palm Desert, California (5 times); Amelia Island, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina, and Hilton Head Island.
