Sheila A.'s Story
School
I went to Burroughs for kindergarten. Mrs. Echoltz, morning. Then I went to Annunciation for 1st (Sr. Leah), 2nd (Sr. Theadora) and 3rd (Mrs. Wolf), and back to Burroughs for 4th (Mr. Pascoe, we got bussed to Kenny) 5th (Mrs. Steinhoven) and 6th (Mrs. Long).
Anthony Jr. High for 7th, 8th and 9th. Washburn Sr. High for 10, 11, 12. I was involved with band and Spanish throughout. Papa Joe Darwich will always be the Leader of the Band to me.
I graduated with a BA (or is that BS) in Spanish, from the College of St. Catherine in 1980, after spending as much time studying in Mexico as they'd let me.
After being out in the real world for several years, I finally gave into law school, and graduated from Hamline University School of Law in 1992.
Throughout my life I've been a student of life. And, I think we are all always...Expand for more
learning.
Workplace
Lets see... of course babysitting ....Then the first paycheck at the Downtown Mann Theater, Burger King, National Car Rental, 7-11.
After College: Hennepin County, AFSCME, SEIU, HERE/Teamsters, AFL-CIO/Frontlash.
After law school: Federal District Court; Rural State Public Defender; Hvass Weisman & King; private practice; Civil Society; Minnesota Department of Human Rights and now Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.
I've had fun, worked hard, been made permanent at temp jobs and perm jobs became temporary. I've traveled across the country organizing people and traveled to other countries in search of social justice. By the time I was 30 I had experienced so much it was hard to believe.
The fun part of life has slowed down a little, but not by much! If I can't be rich, I can at least have fun!
