Sheila's Story

As you have may have noticed, I have been to many schools in my early years. I always found that I could meet interesting people in every school, suffice is to say. I always thought that being a"popular" person meant that it carried to adulthood and I don't even remember the names of those people. I remember the ones that showed me kindness. I rememberes once that I did a drawing , I bekieve, in the second grade, it was a picture of a man fixing his car. It won top prize and my picture with my drawing ran in the local newspaper. I would have been proud if it weren't for the fact that Sr. Agnes Louise decided to teach me a lesson about my hair in my eyes. That day was the day, so she braided it down the middle right before my picture was taken. If you think that was the worst, just hold on to your draws, there is more. For a seven year old, I would say, I was pissed. I went home and wished that Sr., Agnes Louise wasn't a nun, because then I wouldn't have to worry about thel religious and eternal damnation and excommunication, if I decided to trip her on the last step of the front entrance. We, catholics can be really cruel , when it comes to devotion or assigning blame, as long as the finger isn't pointed in our direction. So, I opted out, to let God handle it. I prayed for God to let her die, that she was an old witch, that couldn't teach that well anymore any way. If God decide not to do it He had a good reason. When I returned to school the following Monday, all the nuns were ac...Expand for more
ting strange. They told us to go to our home room and be very, very quiet. There would be an announcement. All of a sudden , it came over the loud speaker, Sr. Agnes Louise died over the weekend and out of respect for sister's family we ask that you leave very quiet as I call out the grade. Well, there you have it. I walked around wondering how am I going to tell a priest about this one. Certainly, not FR. Hogan. Just his voice scared me ! I chose, hell first! Did I wish her dead? Did God decide it was time for her to go? Was it bad timing? Was I evil? Did I just want someone to let up on how they treated me? Well, whatever the I was incorporating all these scenarios into my little brain. I surely was going to do penance for this one. There is no way around it. God doesn't make deals. However, I heard the catholic church does: A Kennedy married over 20 years with children had his marriage annuled, so he could marry in the church with his new bride. He paid. ANYWAY, AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AND ALL, I WENT TO A TWO YEAR COLLEGE, WHICH NOW A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE OF ART. aRT WAS A BG PASSION OF MINE: FROM DESIGNING FURNITURE, FLOORPLANS, AND COLORS AND KNOWING REALLY WHAT PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR IN THE HOME. MY NEED TO FIND A BALANCE IN MY FLIGHTLY SIDE WITH MY PRACTICAL SIDE, I RETURNED TO COLLEGE AND GOT A MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTING DEGREE FROM UMASS, BOSTON. I NEVER WORKED SO HARD FOR ANYTHING IN MY LIFE. HOWEVER, THINGS WORTH HAVING USUALLY ARE HARD TO GET, AREN'T THEY.
