Shelley's Story
Life
We moved to Pasadena in 1966, while my dad worked at Tenneco. I went to JD Parks till they finished building McMasters Elementary, then, San Jacinto Jr. High. I got to go to PHS though the neighborhood was split with our archrivals, Sam Rayburn. My mom & dad had been in a car accident with multiple rollovers, & unfortunately she sustained serious back injuries. She was addicted to Valium & Hydrocodone, & off her rocker most of the time. My closest friends knew this, but I tried to hide it from the rest. Our family life was NOT happy due to her episodes of manic behavior depending on if she had Rx or not. High school then, was my out. I got involved as I could, till we went to family counseling, to help my mom & then re-surfacing of mental scars started plaguing me. At 4 I had lost my virginity to a family member & from my memories I became self-destructive. I messed up my HS years, but I got counseling & really worked on myself. I got my GED. I met & married (after one divorce) a most wonderful man, and we focused our family on church. We were married 15 good years, when he died suddenly 1994 of Long Term effects of his chemo radiation he had sustained as a child. I was left w/3 children to support without formal education. I spent the 02-04 so doing & graduated with my associate's degree and then onto my bachelors in communication technology. I am an outspoken advocate for remedial education in the college system & believe the government needs to QUIT skirting around the issue of medical care for Americans. I do not support the idea of supporting illegal immigrants or people who do not pay into our systems. I took my advocacy to Washington DC in 2003, and to Mexico in 2004. I a...Expand for more
m a widow with no health insurance who lives off her husband's SSI to support my youngest child. I don't believe the government should give to an IL-LEGAL alien cause they are pregnant, and yet, leave behind a widow, whose husband paid into these systems, and I too paid when working. It's a shameful act of bureaucracy when we the people close our eyes. We are a community. If I won the $100 million asked in the profile section, I would take care of widows and women wanting an education! I can dream still, and one day will make a difference to my country! Just watch me!
"UPDATE" I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and degenerative disk disease. I am now disabled and fighting to attain a social security check for myself. I have worked for 31 years, full or part time, and now the government wants to exempt me cause the system is a priority. Please register to vote and consider cases such as mine. My symptoms are extreme! I can no longer work. We the people need to really consider these issues when voting!
School
Mc Masters Elementary
then San Jacinto Jr Hi
then Pasadena High School
Then San Jacinto College
transferred later on to
St Philips College in San Antonio
I am transferring in Spring 2005 to University of Texas in Dallas. My major is Communications Technology.
I want to make documentaries and dvds about important issues, grieving, health care, and God.
I will graduate at the same time as my last child graduates from high school, and maybe, just maybe, then marry the man I've dated for two years and move to Richardson, NE of Dallas!
Wish me well, but better, say a prayer for me. I suffer CFS and FMS and its a difficult journey, on my own!
