Shelley's Story
I've neglected the site...
In 1974, I left St Luke's and started at Paxton. In 1976, my dad passed away. In 1978, my mom and I moved to Lubbock, TX. So, I didn't get to grad with all my Paxton friends. Finished High School January, 1980. Started at Texas Tech in June. Met met my husband, John, June 1981. Married him June 1982. Earned my BS of Education in July 1983. Taught Kindergarten for two years and had my first son, Antony 1985. Started teaching Early Childhood Special Ed in 1986 and had my second son, William. Finished my special Ed certification courses in 1987 and continued teaching PPCD classes, moving to Fort Stockton, TX. In 1990, I had my third son, Jeremy.
Earned my Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders and have been doing Speech Therapy in the public schools. (With a few stints in private, rehab, and Nursing Homes, for good measure).
After 30 years in public school education, the death of my husband, health of my mother all are pushing me to retire this May (2014).
I may do some contract work, etc but for now, I am ready.
I enjoy spending time on computer, iPad, etc. I love to read and look forward to spending some time reading some non-school related material.
I am looking forward to working in the yard and spending time with my grandson, Alex. Love that baby boy!
The boys are scattered. Tony, his wife, Holly and Alex are in Lubbock. Billy is working on his Mas...Expand for more

Right now, we are the proud property of 5 cats... Peepers - my old gray tabby mama - she was the runt and now runs the block
Heads - (cause he doesn't have a tail) is a big, beautiful black Manx - another rescuee

I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a dream idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Debbie Meyer, because she was always a good friend.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the dining room. My dream home would be self-cleaning!!!!.
I'd love to see all my old teachers. I'm sure they never thought I'd make it... I'd really love to see Ms. Maupin, she was one who believed in me and encouraged me. Remember the vocabulary notebooks?!!!!!!
If I won $100 million, I'd give my kids, half of it to finish their education, then spend the rest on paying bills, paying off the house and finishing home projects.
In 10 years, I hope to be close to retirement from education. I'm going to get there by staying focused.
