Shelli's Story
I graduated from St. Ansgar High in May of 84. I went to Iowa State University and graduated with a BA in Art Education in December of 88. I then moved to Eden Prairie, MN where I worked as a substitute for daycare providers. I moved back to St. Ansgar in the fall of 1989 and worked at Fox River Mills during the holiday season as well as doing child care during the day. In September of 1990 I moved to Belmont, MA as a nanny. I spent a year on the east coast and was able to go to New York Christmas shopping, saw a Broadway play, went whale watching, and took a trip to California with my family.
I moved back to Minneapolis in 1991 and worked as a bartender as well as working for a convienence store. I decided at that time to take some additional course work at Hennepin Tech in Layout, Keylining and Desktop Publishing. I then substitute taught in Chaska, Eden Prairie and Shakopee. In the summer of 1993 I was offered a job teaching middle school at South Tama Community Schools. It was a shared position with Grinnell-Newburg Schools and I enjoyed teaching, coaching, directing drama productions and coaching speech.

n 1997 my position was cut to half time due to the sharing being discontinued. I looked for a teaching job but ended up moving back to Minneapois and working for a Life Insurance Company.
In 2001 my dad decided he wanted to take a stab at the restaurant business and he bought the old Cedar Valley Supper Club in Osage. I moved down to help him and we had 2 very interesting years with the restaurant. We sold it in January of 2003.
I moved back up to the cities and got a position in the Compliance Department of Piper Jaffray. I have been with Piper for just over 5 years and was recently laid off due to a reduction in force in August of this year.
In March of 07 I had the joy of becoming a mother. I have a beautiful little girl who has big blue eyes and the most fantastic smile. She is the joy of my life and I don't know what I would have done if I had never had the opportunity to be her mom. She will be 18 months old this month and is so very smart.
Since I am currently out of work I am in the process of going back to school (something I never thought I would be doing at the age of 42) and I find it very exciting.
