Shelly Rae Rishel's Story
Life
As most of you know somehow I ended up married to Charlie Thompson, not just once but twice. We have two wonderful kids a 16 year old daughter Stephanie, and a 8 year old son Geoffrey. They keep me extremely busy since I've also taken up the rewarding and challenging job of homeschooling them. We have bought a home in Plains, Montana which serves as our base as Charlie's job has him and occasionally us traveling all over the world. We recently just returned from a 2 year stint in Europe first 4 months in Grenoble France and then the rest of the time in Dresden, Germany. My daughter thought it was fun to see the country where she was born but she got so terribly homesick that we decided that was as much traveling as we could take for awhile. So now we stay home and Charlie just does short trips overseas without us. We have really enjoyed being home. After all the moving I did growing up it is really nice to be stationary for a change. It feels wonderful to have finally planted roots somewhere. As much as I enjoy a new adventure I've been longing to stay put somewhere for a LONG time
I feel blessed to have had most of my biggest dreams fulfilled at such an early age. God's been more than good to me. I have a husband who is good to me, two intelligent, great looking kids, a beautiful home, great friends, and some of the best memories I wouldnt trade for anything.
Take care, write me and I'll do my best to get back to you.
UPDATE! Since I wrote last we stayed in Minneapolis MN for a few months till the Mall of America seemed too small, he he! And winter was approaching-wasn't looking forward to a MN winter! I got to go with Charlie on a business/early anniversary trip to San Jose, CA and while there I got tickets to the Dr. Phil show and had to drive a rental car by myself (Charlie had to work at the last minute) to Hollywood from San Jose (that was an experience!) It only showed me in the audience for a brief moment but I have Tivo and saved the moment. he he!
For awhile we just enjoyed living in Wild Horse Plains, MT. However, now it is time to move on again this time back to Oregon, Beaverton to be precise. Charlie got a better job offer than the great job offer he had in Kalispell, MT (Where he had worked himself up to a Manager's position at a great worldwide high tech company, to an even better paying (and with better benefits) job in Beaverton Oregon. It all happened quite suddenly and now I'm scrambeling to get things ready to move AGAIN! Never thought I'd be doing that again! We are all heartbroken to be leaving my folks and our friends who have become family to us..but we are also excited to be heading on a new adventure. I feel so blessed to have been able to do and see so much and to be able to have made such amazing friends along the way. God is sooo good!
UPDATE**** Charlie got a new job for Maxim Industries in Beaverton OR and we have moved to Saint Helens OR.
Things are great here and God's blessings have been overwhelming. I still homeschool and it has it's moments but overall it's going great. Hard to believe Stephanie is a Senior this year, she's doing her last year online at MorningStar Academy. She just got back from a Youth Group trip to California to a big Youth Convention and a day at Disneyland. She's really come out of her shell and has made a lot of great friends here. It's a little weird with her having her licence now as it makes the time when she will leave us seem all the sooner.
We found out that Geoff's speech problems had to do with him having an Auditory Processing Problem and he is also dyslexic and as with many dyslexics is extremely bright as well. So he compensates really good. He was amazing in Soccer this year with Charlie as his coach...Expand for more
. He's learned he's a great defender and loves it.
I'm kept really busy with holding things together but finally with the kids older I actually have time to....read more. My long lost love...lol! It's been great. We've had some strange weather here in Saint Helens and since we moved here from Montana it's actually been snowing more than it ever has before, still not enough but I'm ok with that because I enjoy being able to get out and do stuff during the winter knowing that I can go visit the snow as I wish is much better than being stranded so far from everything. I've slimmed down since moving here maybe it's the change in weather allowing me to do more or the fact that I'm not soo close to my mothers wonderful cooking I suspect it's a bit of both..
Charlie is working hard but he's starting to feel like he's finally starting to reap the rewards, he's feeling pretty good about himself now. For the first time in years he's had a chance this holiday season to just sit down and relax and enjoy some real downtime...although a lot of it was spent with us all playing our new Wii, wii sports is addicting! So much fun.
Charlie and have been together now working on 20 years with a short break while he got his head together and though it's not some big fairy tale ending we are in a good place. We've come through a lot together and we are more a part of each other than anyone else in our lives. We are both extremely stubborn people so we have our moments probably a little more than most but we get through it and we know that we love each other and we are happy to be stuck with each other..lol!
God has blessed me beyond even my wildest dreams he's helped me through the hard times and mistakes and has stood by me through it all. I don't know how people go through life without Him. I wish that everyone could know Him as I do. I wont say that it will be all roses but without him and his forgiveness and love I wouldn't be the person that I am now and I am so thankful and grateful for that. He's been my healer, my helper, my life. I've made mistakes but he's always been there waiting for me to realize it and turn to him. I've had consequences to bad decisions but he's helped me through him. There is nothing that I can't go through without him.
My goal is to someday hear the words..Well done my good and faithful servant. I want my life to reflect Him in all I say and do and I want my actions to turn others to Him as well. If I can do these things then my life will have been successful.
God has fulfilled my wildest hopes and dreams some that I hadn't even thought of in years, if I were to die today I would be content knowing that I had a rich life full of love, laughter and adventure. I am overflowing with gratitude for all He's done for me. I wish that all who read this will have a chance to know Him as I do and to turn to Him to fulfill all the hopes, dreams and needs in your life. It's not always easy and you have to give up some of your selfish desires but let me tell you if you do and you are patient he will reward you with way more than you ever could have dreamed.
Jesus is standing at the door of your heart knocking....invite him in. Ask Him to forgive you of all your sins and pride and selfishness and thank Him for doing so and decide from this day forward to serve Him and love Him and live for Him. Find a good Bible believing church so that you have support and live for Jesus for a change and wait and see what He will do for you. I hope to see you someday living for Him. Nothing could make me happier.
For those that think I'm a freak, that's ok too, I don't mind as long as you think I'm a Jesus freak I couldn't be more flattered..Lol!
Alright better go now
Love Shelly
