Sherine's Story
Life
I guess I could say I've changed a lot over the years. I used to be so shy I was afraid to talk to anyone. Now I'm not afraid to do public speaking, or to speak out for what I believe in. I am still shy when I have to mingle, however. (some things NEVER change, but I am trying to overcome this as well)So at our next reunion, don't be surprised to see me being a "wall-flower", haha!
I went from being an agnostic to a Christian, which totally turned my life around, and helped me to know that there is a purpose for my life. This is a continually changing journey, as God is always pointing out new areas of my life that I need to work on. God has blessed my life in so many ways, and He has brought me through some tremendous struggles. Without Jesus I am nothing, and I want to honor Him with my life, even though I so often fail at this.
Twelve years ago I married a wonderful man after being a single parent for almost seven years. He is truly a gift from God; my perfect match in every way. I thank God for him everyday. I couldn't have asked for a better husband!
I have two grown daughters. Lacey is 25, and has been married to husband Joel for six years, and they have four children, and one on the way. Stephanie is 21, and has been dating the same young man for two years. We truly enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren, and are quite honored that they actually enjoy spending time with us!
We have four grandchildren. Gideon and Gabriel are five, Micah is four, and Loralei is almost two. My goal as a grandma is to help my grandchildren to love, honor, respect and obey their parents, to be someone my grandchildren can always turn to for love and support, and most of all to teach them how much God loves them, with the desire that someday they will choose to accept Jesus into their lives. We get to have the grandchildren spend the night once a week. How we enjoy interacting with these precious little children. We are trying to build memories with them that will last a lifetime. And no spoiling here...if Mom says "no", so does Grandma! I hate it when grandparents undermine the parent's authority! I love to have fun with my grandchildren, but I am st...Expand for more
rict when it comes to our house rules, not the typical grandma, I guess, but I want my grandchildren to grow up to be responsible and loving adults, and I want to be a support to my children in their parenting, not a hindrance. We just give lots of time, attention and LOVE, and an occasional spanking or "time-out".
My husband and I live on two acres in Vancouver. My husband cleans up foreclosed homes, and I sell the items he brings home on ebay. Lately, this has kept both of us very busy, as so many homes going into foreclosure.
My husband and I are very active at church. We love to serve the Lord through various ministries. I am a member of our Women's Ministry team, because I have a heart for women, and helping them to feel connected to other women, and helping them to grow in their relationship to the Lord. I am also active in our weekly AWANA program during the school year. This is a weekly club for preschool through high school age kids. I am currently the director of the 3rd & 4th grade girls club. I love working with these girls, getting to know them and encouraging them as they learn God's Word, and as they work through struggles in their lives. Perhaps my favorite ministry is teaching Sunday School for 2 & 3 year olds. My husband and I teach together, and I have to tell you, these little people bless us every week! At this age, they are so real and so teachable. My favorite part of class is after we sing "Jesus Loves Me". I point at each child individually, say their name, and tell them that Jesus loves them. You should see their faces light up! We really love these kids, and hope we are demonstrating God's love to them.
I have been working out at a gym over the past three years, and have been taking Krav Maga (Israeli hand-to-hand combat)classes as well. I feel so much better working out and eating right. I have thought about going back to school to be a personal trainer, not this coming year, but possibly the next. I would love to learn more about nutrition and exercise and be able to help others reach their healthy weight loss goals...we'll see...it's just an idea at the moment.
Life is good, God is great, I am blessed and truly filled with joy!
