Sherri's Story
Life
I'm in my 23nd year as an elementary school teacher. This year I am teaching 4th grade, my favorite grade level, in Lake Forest.
I love to travel, especially to quiet tropical places. However, I am also a fan of having fun right here in Orange County, going out to dinner, and get-togethers with friends.
I don't have any children of my own in case you were wondering. I live in Orange now, and plan to move to Irvine in the next year.
I've made a discovery about myself since I graduated: I LOVE running and racing! I started in 1993 and became really hooked after entering a 10K. (I remember seeing Carrie Palma at my first race!) I eventually got fast enough to win age group awards at local races. I even qualified for the Boston Marathon for a second time and crossed the finish line in 2006. World Marathon in Orlando. I finally ran a PR time of 3:14. An added bonus was that I won the top female master award. It's a really cool (huge!) Mickey Mouse trophy. I say it's my "final" marathon because that's my least favorite distance to race. However, I felt great at this last one. Then I discovered I qualified for the New York Marathon. I've NEVER been to New York. So now I will train for one more "final" marathon. November 2009 I'm doing the New York Marathon. Should be fun!
Unfortunately, my love of racing has done a number on my feet. I've been through achilles tendinitis for years, and currently have plantar fasciitis. Sigh... So in the mean time, I have been cycling and swimming like a maniac. I hope to heal in time so that I can still do New York.
