Sherri's Story
Life
My life is a never ending road of twist and turns. It continues to be a work in progress.
School
If I could do high school all over again, I would take my education more seriously.
College
After high school, I attended State Technical Institute majoring in Data Processing. Before I took my first programming class, other students at the school kept telling me that programming was difficult. So, I got nervous and switched to Accounting and was horrible at it. But I graduated in it anyway. I eventually went back to State Tech and majored in Data Processing and made an "A+" in every programming class. I learned a valuable lesson. "Never allow others to presuade you to compromise your goals." In 1989, I went back to school again to pursue a 4 year degree. . After graduation, I took a job in Dallas, Texas as a programmer.
Workplace
After high school, I worked as a file clerk and computer operator while going to school part-time. In 1992, I grew tired of working full-time and going to school. So, I decided to attend school full-time to complete my degree. After graduation, I worked in the IT field for 4 years in the Dallas area before the IT industry in the area took a big hit. I eventually had to sell my home and move back to Memphis. Trying to get back into the IT field in Memphis has been a struggle. It reminds me why I left Memphis in the first place. Since I've been back, I've reconnected with my love for computer graphics and desktop publishing. I've started a part-time business creating websites and designing marketing material. I'm starting to slowly realize that being an entrepreuner is the only way to take control your destiny.
