MY LIFE
We've got two children that are as different as night and day,
Mom still lives in Castro Valley and I moved to Fremont when I got married in 1979.Yikes! I've now been married 38+years! Which means that over half of my life I've now been married.
This is our second home in Fremont.Perhaps after Jamie moves out we will move to a smaller place, closer to the ocean. I love to go to Santa Cruz and Pismo Beach whenever I get the chance.
My husband is retired, but I still work part-time in an Elementary school as a library media tech.Prior to that I worked at UPS for 20 years.
I almost always have a book/magazine somewhere to read. there's one at the table, in the bathroom, in my car, etc...
I adore my pets...currently 4 cats, and a dog. I did furry friends rescue for a while but it only made my pets insecure and my husband wanted to keep them all.
CHILDHOOD
I lived in Castro Valley at the end of Seven Hills Rd/Madison Avenue. My neighbors= Debbie Hillan, Sydney Rutzebeck, Bill Beveridge, Nanci Humphries, Pat Holt, Diana Teir, Chris Erickson, Robyn Barbour, Sharon Rossi, LuAnn Pilkington. I spent a lot of time with kids from Earl Warren and Canyon High School although I went to Our Lady of Grace and Castro Valley High.
Do you remember me? In grade school I was very shy. Since all my neighbors attended Earl Warren Jr High, I hung out with Ricky Harris and his sister Cherie, Butch Fuller, Joe Giacomini, Gary Phinney.
In high school I wanted to meet everyone. I took lots of art classes (teacher Paulson)I took Drama and I was in the school play "Steam Heat". I went to every football game and dance.I loved to dance!!!
Would love to reconnect with "kids" I knew and see how your life turned out. I hung out with Barbara Leifur, and Charlotte Grey. Platform shoes and mini skirts were in, as were hot pants. High School had just started allowing pants "suits" for girls. You might remember me wearing a purple mini dress with black tights. My mom always hated my tights.
Funny thing, I always thought I hated school - especially grade school and couldn't wait to get out.I graduated in January in '71. Now I work in a school and I love it.
Those were the best years of my life. No responsibilities.Plenty of time hanging out at the Red Barn and MacDonalds on the blvd. Sunday mornings it was Winchells donuts!!Weekends it was Earl Warren Park, with 'the park gang'...Expand for more
.
I majored in art and optometry.I have library and computer skills.
WORKPLACES
Let's see...my first job was at Payless in CV as a cashier.Remember the carnivals they would have in the parking lot?? Before it was Payless it was Value World. Then I worked at an all girl gas station.I worked as an pharmacy clerk and an optometrist assistant, then a clerk for UPS. There I learned more skills advancing up to the accounting/payroll dept. When I left there I worked as a sign maker for Cost Plus in Fremont, and a key data entry for Sun Microsystems. Helping out at school for my kids led me to my current library position.
computers were easy for me, plus I loved reading all those tech manuals.
My hardest thing - getting to work on time. Fremont to Oakland (UPS)was a bumper to bumper nightmare. And getting two kids ready for school plus myself (and I'm not a morning person)wasn't fun!!!Luckily my current library job is only 15 minutes away and I can dress in jeans and t-shirts.
MILITARY
Hayward air national guard. Boot camp was hell! I was stationed in San Antiono, Texas. What was I thinking!!! Very hot weather! But I got a skill in optometry and an AA degree.
We had some cute guys in the clinic to work with in Hayward! Oh yeah! At this time the guys wore short hair wigs and had long hair.
My first car was an Oldsmobile dynamic 88. It was grey and only cost me a hundred bucks. ( I think the mileage had rolled over twice before I got it) I called it the 'tank'. Once I drove that into the ground...broken drive shaft and axle. I got a '63 VW bug that I had painted purple. Named that Moby Grape. My mom was happier now that half the neighborhood couldn't ride with me, but sneaking kids into the drive in movies wasn't as easy now....I remember being in the tank and having 3 girls hidden in the car when I drove up to pay for one person...much better when you only had to pay one price for a carload. Miss those in car heaters!!!
My next vehicle was a ford Pinto fastback. The company "Fingerhut" had clear plastic seat covers that I stupidly got to protect my new car. Well those rotted my seats with the hot summer heat - ever fry your butt on a extremely hot plastic seat?
Next vehicle was a burgundy MGB sport-scar. Very small, very fun. Until I threw a rod and blew up the engine.Guess I;m not the sporty car type. Sooo, I got a trans am, cornflower blue with black interior and had the eagle removed from the hood. This was fun!
