Shirlee's Story
Life
I attended EBHS 1955-57. Moved to San Diego when I married Carl Paulk who was in the Navy. Before we separated the first time we had one daughter. Later we divorced and I remarried Joe. After 44 years I lost him to heart disease. Joe was from Texas so it seemed like every seven years we moved back and forth between Tx. & Bksfld. In l980 his work caused us to locate permanently in Porterville, actually a VERY SMALL community of Ducor, where we had several acres and raised holstein cows but always had other occupations, mostly bookkeeping myself but also drove a school bus off and on until it totaled 21 years..1995 we really got crazy and bought a bowling center complete with resaurant and bar. WOW!!!! Wish I had that decision back. Retired two years ago from my latest employment, vault cashier in a casino. I really enjoyed the job but thought my age was sufficient reason to do nothing.Didn't take long to realize I wasn't going to make a very good couch potatoe so back to work I went. Working part time for four different businesses allowing myself only two Sundays a month off. Sounds terrible but it was the right choice for me. Hopefully I will get some feedback from Classmates...Expand for more
. com. as I have been so out of touch with old EBHS classmates. A lot of old friends were class of 57 and would like to attend that reunion if it is allowed and really hope Class of 59 will be having something in the near future. Just returned from Houston where my brand new Great Granddaughter was born. Hope to make more trips there soon. Enough for now. Let me hear from you.........Shirlee
Workplace
Most of my employment has been in the bookkeeping field but have done many other things also. Drove a school bus off and on until my service totaled 21 years. Have been an avid bowler since l959 and in l995 took the plunge and bought a bowling center, complete with full service restaurant and lounge. Lots of really hard work and really long hours. Always having to fill in for some one who wasn't able to come to work, the desk person in the lanes, the cook, the waitress, the dishwasher, the bartender etc. After six years, cut my loss, and moved on to become a vault cashier for a casino and then retired, lol. Back to bookkeeping now, mostly payroll for two trucking businesses and a U-Haul dealer and storage unit business. No moss grows under my feet. My best to all. Shirlee
