Shirley's Story
Life
Where to begin!
Ok, Readers Digest version: Dated Dick in Â68 (commitment issues). Engaged to Dave in Â70 (Viet Nam issues). Married Dan in Â72 (abusive-divorced in Â82). He & I had 2 sons, Tony & Vinnie. Married Don in Â84 (abusive-divorced inÂ87). Rather than move to the next letter of the alphabet, IÂve chosen to remain single since Â87. I have a cat named Buddy (affectionate; yet demanding....but I can tolerate that in a cat!!). Both of my sons are married to beautiful women & my son & his wife, Tony & Jami, just blessed me with my first grandchild, Brayden Thomas, on April 29th. Unfortunately they're in Va., so I haven't held him yet (& it's killing me!). IÂve lived in Austintown & Girard; but keep coming home to Warren. IÂve worked many jobs over the years; from office management, to sales & marketing, to telemarketing for charitable organizations. In 2001 my thyroid took a nose-dive & brought about tons of illnesses that are attacking my immune system (or whatÂs left of it). IÂm currently recovering from my second surgery in a year. On bad days I even have to use a cane & take advantage of my Handicapped Parking sticker. IÂm guessing many of my alumni are in a similar condition. Now & then I slip into depression (thanks to an illness I inherited from my motherÂ
.. & if any of you knew my mother, then you understand why).
But through it all, I still have joy because I found answers to all of lifeÂs difficult questions... including why do we get sick & die?! They were all in the Bible & I never knew it until someone taught me. We were one of the last generations allowed to say the ÂLordÂs Prayer in school. IÂd never asked myself why Jesus gave us that model prayer. But once my Bible teacher helped me to dissect it, it became crystal clear. It was the focal point of ChristÂs ministry on earth & the solution to all mankindÂs problems in the future. One of the beautiful benefits is described at Revelation 2...Expand for more
1:4, ÂAnd he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more. Neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Where will that be? Jesus answered that at Matthew. 5:5 when he said, ÂBlessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earthÂ. How many years have we been praying for peace on this earth stained with bloodshed. We have the opportunity to finally see it happen. When will that be? Take the time to read Matthew. 24:36-39 & compare it with 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Then you tell me.
So!! Did you ever expect that to come out of MY mouth?? ShirleyÂ
the clown. Well, we all gotta grow up sometime. And IÂm glad I did (though it didnÂt happen till I was 36). My children have been Bible-trained & reaped the benefits. My son Vinnie & his wife both speak Spanish & he is a Minister/Overseer in a Spanish Congregation. They also live here in Warren & provide needed care for me. My son Tony & his wife (& my grandson) live in Williamsburg, Virginia & also help. And I am blessed to have many loving friends who bring meals & necessities as I need them.
Many of you left Warren. If you havenÂt been here for awhile, expect to see a lot of empty buildings. Economy still isnÂt too good in these parts. But at least old WGH is still standing! Lots of memories in those halls! Like trying to get from 1st. period Sociology in Room 107 to 2nd. period Math in Room 324Â
. the other end of the building. And then 3rd. period ACapella on the 2nd. floor, back across near the band room. I swear somebody spent hours making our schedules so we'd be running all over that school!! And what about the Games & the Sock Hops? What a blast those were! YesÂ
Those were the days, my friend. Adios, Amigos.
And by the wayÂ
Â
Remember our Class of Â67 Motto: ÂWe have reached the hilltops; the mountains are in viewÂ? Somehow I never reached the mountains; but I certainly made it Âover the hillÂ.
