Shirley's Story
Life
I have been married to my husband Ron for 34 years now. We have one daughter, Kelly who is 29 years old. Ron retired from the Navy in 1995 after serving 20 years. We lived in Jacksonville Florida except for the last 3 years when we were in Memphis Tennessee. While living in Memphis, I needed eye surgery. It turned out to be Gary Passons of our graduating class. His employees wanted to hear gossip on him when he was in high school. We both agreed to remain silent about anything that went on at Tyner.
While in the Navy, my husband made several 6-7 month deployments to the Med on the aircraft carriers USS Forrestal and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. As a result of him serving in the Navy, we have many dear friends living all over this nation. Because of the frequent separation, the wives left behind developed a close relationship since we faced the same challenges. We still keep up with several of them even now after 12 - 15 years.

n Cleveland now. Ron works at TVA's Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and Kelly is a paramedic with Memorial Hospital. She has not married yet - anyone have a son about 30 years old that isn't married?
As for me, after I graduated high school, I began working for TVA. When we married and moved to Florida, I worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and eventually began working for the IRS. I became ill in 1987 and was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Because of the severity of the condition, I had to quit working. While I'm unable to work a regular job, I have had the opportunity to do volunteer work. One activity I am currently involved in through our church, Silverdale Baptist Church. Once a month our small group serves lunch to the families of ICU patients at Memorial Hospital. While my life has not turned out to be what I had envisioned it when I graduated from Tyner in "72, I am so thankful and blessed to have a such a loving husband and daughter. It's also good to be back home close to my mom, sister, brother, and their families. Life is good!
