Shirley's Story
Hi, my name is Shirley Dean. I was Shirley Smith when I was a student at Graymont Elementary.
My memories include our wonderful teacher Mrs. Phillips. She taugh, among other things, music
or vocals. She was the kindest person I though. I have never forgotten how she never showed
differences in her students, was very kind and thoughtful. Mrs. Phillips if you read this just know
I have never forgotten you! Two other people at Graymont made a great impact on my life was Mrs. Graves
I think she was my 7th grade teacher. Mrs. Graves was also very kind and she and our wonderful
Principal at the time Mr. Eubanks sliterally saved my life. One day in school I had major pain in my stomach
in Mrs. Graves room. She was our English teacher. Anyway, I felt as though I would pass out. Mrs. Graves took notice
and ask me if I was ok? I said no ma'am,my stomach hurts really bad. She said I wa...Expand for more
s very pale. Long story short she sent me home in the nic of time because my Appendix had ruptured. I was in a coma for 6 weeks after that day in school. In Children's Hospital. When I was sent home the Dr. gave my Mother this list odf thing I had to eat every single day to build up my strengh. My Mother took one look at that list and said, I can't buy steak everyday. I am a single Mom with 4 children in school. The Dr. wanted me to gain weight as I had gone from about 115 pounds to 85 lbs. in the hospital..
Mr. Eubanks came by my room everyday at recess and got me and took me to the lunch room. He got me anything I wanted! I had two chocolate milks, and a steak sandwich. Theen I would have a large lunch. He did this until I gained all my weight back! God Bless these three teachers they were some of the Angels who have crossed my path so far during my life.
