Shiryl's Story
After high school, I went to college, but it took 8 years to get my bachelor's degree after pausing to start a family. With my husband's full support, and after working full-time and going to school part-time, I finally graduated from St. John's in '84 while I was pregnant with my 3rd child. My children are: Justin, 28 and recently engaged; Leniece, 26 and a special-ed school teacher in Queens; and John, 24 and the father of a 6-month old little girl, Myana, our first grandchild.

I've been working in the computer field since '86, as a programmer, QA tester, systems analyst, project manager, and now a software process improvement consultant. The best career move I made was to take (and pass) the programmer training exam that was given at the company I was working for in 1985. The idea of living with MS has been interesting, challenging, frustrating, and enlightening. My husband's support includes the herbal approach, while I and my neurologist focus on the medicinal approach. Hopefully all of them together will reduce the symptoms and make my world easier to handle.
