Sierra's Story

Life I have been married for 30 years to my husband Saverio (Sam) and we have two sons, Saverio (Sammy) II age 28 and Christopher age 23. I have a stepson, David, age 41 and a stepdaughter, Debbie, age 42 and two step granddaughters, ages 21 and 14 and three step grandsons ages 10 and 7 and 5 years old and a great grand daughter age one. From son Sammy, we have a grandson, Landon age five. We enjoy fishing and camping, but it's been awhile. I graduated May of 2003 with my Associate of Arts from Western Nevada Community College after four years and I was attending Western Governors University in Utah, doing online courses to obtain my BA and Teachers' Certification for K - 8th but that is currently on hold now. I am enrolled at Kaplan University and I am going for my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Juvenile Justice. I hope to be a Child Advocate when I am done with my schooling. I work full time for a Juvenile Detention Center where I am a Detention Aide/Peace Officer. I work part time for the University of Nevada, Reno doing class facilitating although I have not facilitated a class in quite awhile. My husband Sam also works for the Juvenile Detention Center as a Detention Aide/Peace Officer. I have my own website where I write mainly poetry and thoughts. I hope to one day have my poems published. I love to write letters and e-mail and just keeping in touch with friends and family. I was taking a Freelance Writing Course, but that is on hold for now and hope to one day write a book which I have already started. My son Sammy is a Deputy Sheriff and his wife Danielle is a CNA at the local hospital and my son Chris is a Line Cook/Supervisor for the local Casino Restaurant and he will be getting married in August of 2010. As you can see I really don't have much spare time and the time I do have I try to spend with my family. I think what might surprise some people is that I have been told that I still look the same as I did but I am heavier than I was then. My favorite way to relax is to be on my computer and just catching up with e-mails. I don't go out much but when I do I have a lot of fun seeing people I haven't seen in quite awhile. My job is very stressful at times, face it, when you have anywhere from 16 to 20 + teenagers under one roof with attitudes, things can get pretty tense. I don't always hold my temper but I have a lot of patience and that helps. In order to deal with my day-to-day situations at work I need a good nights sleep which I very rarely get because I usually only average about three hours or so and that is sporadic, at least three cups of coffee and a positive attitude. I hope old friends remember me as I was in high school, somewhat shy but caring and once a friend, always a friend. I have a few heroes in my life, one being my dad who has been gone for thirteen years. He was the strongest person I know and the best father anyone could ever have and he is where I ...Expand for more
get my strength. Another hero would be my best friend Tami who lives every day of her life with Multiple Sclerosis and doesn't let it get her down. She has been my best friend for 38 years and is the feistiest person I know. I have a living angel named Jack whom I have never met but correspond with on the computer and he has been such a great inspiration in my life with my poetry and just every day things. I have an angel named Pat who is looking over me. She and I shared the love of poetry and we also became acquainted over the computer but we did meet and spend the whole day together at one of my school functions before she passed away and she was a very awesome person. My sons are awesome and I am very proud of them. I see every day how my oldest one who is a deputy deals with so many people. He does his job well and I see how so many people don't like him because of that. He has even lost friends because of doing his job but then there are those who admire him for what he does on a day-to-day basis. He puts his life on the line every day and I admire him for that. My youngest son who is the cook/supervisor is also very awesome. He is always there for a friend who needs something and expects nothing in return. He takes a lot from people who don't like his older brother but handles it because he is very proud of his brother.. I don't know that there are any teachers I would like to see but I do keep in contact with my 7th grade home room teacher, I write to her and she calls me. I lived with my parents until the day I got married at 23 years old and then I moved to Las Vegas where my husband was already working and from there we lived in northern California and from there we moved to our tiny little town of Hawthorne, Nevada which is only about one mile around but we are surrounded by one of the largest Army Depots in the United States. We have not lived in the city since 1982. I am still pretty much like I was in school, mellow and sometimes still shy but I have opened up more since meeting my husband. That was a strange happening because we never dated. His cousin introduced him to me, we said hi now and then to each other. We went to the same party one night in December of 1977, only a few went, we talked for about three hours when I was leaving to go home outside by my car. The following week there was another party to make up for the first one that no one showed up at, again we went separately, he asked me to marry him and I said yes. The following week we went shopping for rings and I picked out the same set that he had showed his cousin when he went to have a chain fixed. He told his cousin that if he ever got married again that the set he showed him would be the rings he wanted and those are the ones I picked out first. In November of 1978 we were married. People look at me with surprise when I tell them how we didn't date until after we got engaged. It's the best thing that ever happened to me!
