Simon's Story
So after everything, I 've worked as a Flight Paramedic for 12 years. I spent the first five years on Helicopters and now work on a plane based out of Gravenhurst, Ontario.
Before finding my chosen career, I tried several other opportunities including Law Enforcement. I then enrolled at Toronto's Humber College and later started my full-time EMS career with York Region EMS, working out of the Richond Hill Station. I attended the Advanced Care Diploma Program at the Michener Institute in Toronto and worked in York as an Advanced Care Paramedic.
Early in 2001 my girlfriend Jennifer, and I were looking to diversify our work experiences. Jennifer took a job with James Bay General Hospital at their clinic in Moosonee (North-Eastern Ontario). I was hired by Canadian Helicopters in 2001, was trained as an Advanced Care Flight Paramedic, and stated work out of the Moosonee base. Jennifer and I got engaged to be married that December. 2002 I was offered a postion at our Base in Thunder Bay, Ontario and we relocated there shortly after.
Jennifer and I very much enjoyed working in Northern Ontario but we very much missed our friends and family. So, when I was offered a transfer to our Toronto Island Base, we jumped at the chance. We moved back to the Toronto area in March 2003.
Oh, yes, at the beginning of June 2003, Jennifer and I got married.
In 2006, with many changes going on in the Ontario Air Ambulance System, and with our first child due early in 2007, we decided to move back to Thunder Bay and I took a job with a Private Air Ambulance operator there.
In late 2010, after trying to make things work for a long time, Jennifer and I decided to separate, but are amicable and we share custody of our wonderful sons Thomas and Nicholas. In January 2013 we agreed to relocate back to Southern Ontario and I now live with the boys just north of Barrie. I don't check this website much anymore, but come find me on Facebook.
