Sonya's Story

Hello, My Friends! It is funny how nostalgic I have become as I have gotten older. For years I have checked back and forth on this site, really since it started, and 2008 was the year I decided to become a PAYING member! I started school in Mineola, NY for a few years and I met a lot of great friends in Ms. Kazin's, Ms. Hughes', and Ms. Wuerfl's classes. Then we moved to Roslyn, NY and I was in Ms. Heller's class (boy was I a trouble-maker then!), Ms. Jenkins' class and met my match with Ms. Gibson (she and I became friends and she even attended my wedding!). JR. High in Roslyn was all about lip gloss and clothes (do you remember we used to wear men's boxer shorts to school?) and Madanna was my fascination. I only attended RHS for one year then we moved, (sniff, sniff) but then that was where I met my husband and made even more friends. best times were had rehearsing for the plays! I can remember laughing so hard during rehearsals, I thought I was going to hurt myself. I remember being so nervous singing solos I thought I was going to pass out. I remember Mr. Barrett getting really "jazzed" when we sang our songs JUST RIGHT in select choir. I went to SUNY New Paltz for college, more great times and double majored in Psych and Black Studies and still managed to graduate in four years. After that, I moved south to North Carolina to be with my high school sweetheart and we have been together ever since. Married in '96 and to our surprise for the new millenium we had twin girls. The job scene has been challenging over the years, I have bumped around in Marketing for high-tech companies for the last 12 years or so. Turbulent times though with all the mergers, and bankruptcies and what not, but I hope to own my own business one day. Call my own shots and do my own thing.
