Spencer's Story
After graduation from Bethlehem Central I attended Bucknell University for one year between 1959 and 1960. After a couple years off which included enlistment in the Navy I transferred to Monmouth University, a small liberal arts college on the New Jersey shore, not far from where my parents relocated to in 1962. I graduated from there in 1966 with a BA in history and sociology. After graduation I lived in Manhattan and worked in financial jobs for about eight years. I also attended NYU's graduate school of business administration during that time. I then moved back to the Albany area in the early 70s to work in commercial banking and as a stock broker. I then worked for New York State Government in community and state-wide economic development for about 25 years and obtained a master's degree in public administration at the Rockefeller School of Public Affairs at SUNY Albany. I then became involved with overseeing sheltered workshops around the state that employed disabled individuals. alking distance to work (while I was working), as well as to restaurants, concerts, church, sports venues, etc. I am now retired and enjoying travel to domestic and foreign places, friends and family (including our two terriers), boating, golf, biking, swimming, urban gardening, choral singing, and volunteer work, along with other more sedate "activities" such as reading, listening to music, and watching TV and movies. I serve on two boards, one a company that sells and services equipment for the disabled such as wheel chairs and scooters, and the other, an organization that coordinates services for seniors such as the Meals on Wheels program and activities at Senior Service Centers around Albany County. We have recently moved our boat from Mystic, Connecticut to the Hudson River by Albany hoping to participate this summer and fall in the various celebrations of Henry Hudson's discovery of the river four hundred years ago. Money is everywhere in short supply, however so the events are not going to be as grand as originally planned. It should still be a fun summer, though. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the 50th high school reunion in October.
