Stacy's Story

Life (Highlights)'93: After our 10 year reunion I returned to Santa Fe and worked on the film "Wyatt Earp". 10/97: Broke my leg in several places while hiking in the Sierra Madres of Mexico. Left Mexico with a $6.00 sterling silver ring and a $10,000.00+ titanium rod in my lower right leg. 10/98: Moved to East Texas. 09/99: Met Ramey 02/00: Began dating Ramey 07/00: Became engaged (to Ramey) 10/00: Became pregnant (by Ramey) **neither one of us were expected to be able to have children** 12/30/00: Married Ramey 07/31/01: Miracle Baby Born: Our daughter, Ramey Jane Stevens,(Rayne), 8lbs. 5ozs.; 20 1/2 inches long. 09/11/01: One of my best friends lost his brother in the WTC disaster. That, coupled with being a new mom really began to put "LIFE" into perspective. 12/01: Became pregnant with miracle baby #2, which usually doesn't occur when you're breast feeding full time and taking the pill. 09/29/02: Miracle Baby Born: Our son, Jove Ketchum Stevens 9 lbs. 4ozs. 21 1/2 02/03: Buy a new home near Lake Palestine so Ramey can spend 10 minutes driving round trip from home to work, as opposed to the 3 hours it was taking previously. 06/03: Can't believe it's time for our 20 year reunion. I hope we've made our move to Alaska by the 25th one. 08/07 Updated my classmates membership to see if there will be a 25th reunion. (now to backtrack) 10/05 Left Texas.....not for Alaska though, chose Taos New Mexico instead. Mountains, white Christmas's, and can still get back to Texas for family in a day. 04/06 We suspected Jove may be autistic. A UNM pediatric neurologist concurs but we'll have to have hi...Expand for more
m evaluated by the doctors at SWAN (Southwest Autism Network), which has up to a year waiting list. 08/06 Rayne starts kindergarten at a charter school. If school had been like this when we were students I believe a vast majority would have been far more successful. They are awesome. We've gotten Jove enrolled in a pre-k program as well. 10-12/06 Found a house we can afford...barely....almost 4x more than what it cost in east TX. Closed on house and got the keys a week before Christmas. Ramey & I joked that it's our joint Christmas, anniversary, and birthday present for the next 30 years. (length of the mortgage) 01/07 Went to Amarillo to pick up our newest family member. She's an AKC WGS (White German Shepherd). Her name is Ta Molly Starr Stevens. Rayne had chosen the name Molly, the dames' name is Taya, and the sires' name is Starr, thought the "Ta Molly", (tamale) was appropriate for New Mexico. 04/07 Finally had Jove evaluated and the autism was confirmed. We've already been working with the school to help him, thankfully we'll now have greater resources through SWAN. The government states approx. 1 in 150 children are within the autism spectrum. In reality it's closer to 1 in 80. Made a few trips to Texas over the summer. 08/07 Kids back in school. Mom, who has CCL, (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) is no longer responding to oral chemo, and is opting not to attempt the stronger, more common chemotherapy. She goes back to her oncologist in mid September. We'll then get a better idea of time frame. The kids and I will probably head back there for the Christmas break unless we need to be there sooner.
