Stacy's Story

Life And here it is that I, Stacy (Ellerbe) Smith, former hybrid Band Geek and Orch Dork, once know as the Red Beast to many, say hello there! I'm not sure if people actually read these things or not, so I'm just going to mosy a bit through my life because I'm being a 'nanny' this summer and the kid's still asleep and I'm bored. So, if anyone does actually get to this, enjoy. I also think I've been going through a mid-mid-life crisis of a minor degree, probably mainly due to the fact that our 10 year reunion met me in my inbox a few mornings ago and promptly hit me squarely in the jaw. Needless to say, I've since gone a quest of sorts to find old friends and see if they feel as old as I do at this point in time. (I don't really believe in old, mind you...but 10 years...man!) From Providence High, I went straight on to East Carolina University, where I maintained my excellent track record of doing absolutely nothing. I majored in music for the three semesters I was there, but since I refused to do any homework or studying or that kind of thing, I ended up failing out of school. Twice. So it was on to bigger and better things than college. Like working at a video rental store, a Christmas shop, a summer camp, and Michael's Arts and Crafts. As you can imagine, this didn't fulfill my life's purpose, so I gave college another shot, three years behind schedule, and the NC School of the Arts. Here, all of my classmates were three years younger than myself and stupid, so it wasn't too hard to ingnore all of them and get to work. So I finally graduated college with a degree in Music Performance in 2002. And for all of you out there that don't remember, I play bass. So, with a degree finally under my b...Expand for more
elt, I decided that it was prime time for getting married. I'd been dating Allen Smith as of 1998, and after 2 years of that, and a 2 year engagement, we got married on August 3rd, 2002. Unfortunately, my dad died from a brain tumor a little over 2 months before our wedding day. This is certainly something that tends to put a damper on things. But, since this is a short bio, I'll simply tell you that the death of my father sucked amazingly and that I grieved and hated the world and God for a period of time, but I got over it for the most part, though not nearly as quickly or efficiently as I've just described it for you. Allen and I moved to Winston Salem, where the NC School of the Arts is and where the gigs are plenty. I've been performing with the Winston Salem Symphonly since 1998 and love it. I also play with any other ensemble that comes my way, like the Salisbury, Hickory and Greensboro Symphonies and the NC Chamber Ensemble. No Charlotte Symphony yet...that's for the big dogs. I ended up an orchestra teacher, even though I swore up and down that I never would because of all the hell we used to give to Doc. But it's funny the way some things work out. This will be my 4th year teaching, and I'm starting to like it okay. My husband Allen teaches hisory at Mt. Tabor High in Winston. He teaches because he WANTS to...he actually majored in education. It was sort of a fluke for me, but I guess now I'm starting to be glad it turned out how it did. Anyone that I know, write me sometime. Or if I don't know you, that's fine too. I hope everyone has gotten just what they want out of life and that everything is super-duper-peachy-keeny. That's not probable, really, but I'm sure we'll all do our best.
