Stanley's Story

Life The past is prolgue. My concern is the present and the future. I'm looking for a companion to share life with. I have to offer a nice apartment, a 2005 Lexus SC430, and very little money. My iterests embrace writing, chess, math and music. I have an upright piano and a keyboard. I am 6 ft, 225 lb, and in reasonable health. I like to watch baseball, basketball and football. I do not like movies. I write poetry and essays. I am independent in mind, spirit and relations. Never married. I am a non-smoker and non-drinker. I live in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. Assets include intelligent analytical ability, incomparable memory, excellent sense of humor, and beliefs in secular universalism and rationalism. Liabilities include poor social network, occasionally demanding nature and loneliness. Seeking a 50-50 relationaship more than anything else. No baggage, please. Do I leave thee at ease?... I always wanted to be a nothing when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a nothing idea. As it turns out, they were right. Sit and do nothing and play chess. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have quiet, light, and tempeature to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Sir Isaace Newton in terms of accomplishment. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Richard M Richard M Kolbert, because he is a leader. MAth, chess, writing, sports, people and my car. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the blinds and add on new blinds. My dream home would be my apartment. I have none. If I won $100 million, I'd give all of it to my brokerage, then spend the rest on food, clothing and shelter.. It wasa fun until I isolated myself from others. My current age is 72. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be successful. I was so completely wrong.. To be published and to be financially stable. My best friend would tell you I'm warm, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as cold.. Dress casually, but still save business clothes. I share my home with a cactus, which I find satisfactory. I won two chess tournaments. In 10 years, I hope to be rich. I'm going to get there by doing my thing.. Ron Golden. We met in our club. He is street smart. My first job was at summer camp, where I got paid $25/wk to wash dishes.. What I remember most about it is I was late to work.. I emerged ferom adolescencew and went to high school. I always wanted to be a genius when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a foolish idea. As it turns out, they were right. So I had to settle for an idiot savant. My specialty was observing the local scene and trying to figure it out. It didn't make me especially happy, because I saw people's faults and the scene's faults instead of the good things. Naturally, this made me depressed. Until I went to high sch...Expand for more
ool. It was a wondeful outlet and I was happy there. But you can't go to high school all your life. I moved on to college on a tuition scholarship. Not because I was so good, but because the college was desperate for serious people. I was underdeveloped in several ways. For example, I didn't drink beer or solicit call girls. Because I couldn'tr hack it with my fellow students, my social life was extremely poor, and this was my undoing. I managed to graduate in five years and took the first bus back to Brooklyn. I had failed to become a playboy.... Post- college was a disaster. I had big ambitionsa that all flopped. Not having a job and not being able to go out into the community on my own, I became disturbed, as anyone would. I struggled in and out of work for several years until I finally got a solid job which I stuck to. I tell you this because I don't want you to think it was peaches and cream, a story which is the same for everybody, I believe. At this point, I listened to advice and went into civil service. It was a very smart move. I remained there for 25 years when my condition flared up and I decided to retire. I wasa 62. Foir the next few years, I struggled with my condition and eventually joined my club. I also played a lot of chess. I'm basically a writer. I have a collection of my writings, unpublished. At one time, I had a lot of money, but this has dwindled to a paltry amount. I'm barely getting by. To be honest, I don't seem to attract people. I have a poor social network, despite my club activities. I think I'm too intense and too cerebral, and not pleasant and agreeable enough. I'm trying to change. I'm alone and feel lonely too much of the time, maybe because I tend to be self-reliant and independent, but more likely because I have a bad personality--I simply don't attract people, maybe because I think too much and am preoccupied with my thoughts instead of having a clear mind. t.b.c. Perhaps the best way to meet and attract people is to focus on their thoughts and feelings rather than your own. Be interested in others. To all car aficionados: I sold my car. I was having dificulty paying for it, insurance, garage, gas, uopkeep, maintenance. And then, the company stopped making it. I had it for 4 and 1/2 years. I enjoyed it imeensely. I recently wrote five pieces. One on college football games, one on the recession, one on science and Eleven Principles of Living. If anyone is interested, I will send this last to you. 3/30/10 I am pleased to report that I have found a companion. She moved in over two weeks ago, settled in without a blink and is now ruler of the roost. Otherwise, I am moving along my timeline, feeling well and happy. What else can I ask for? Since I sold my Lexus convertible, I have moved into the black and have returned to the market. There is a sucker reborn every minute. Be well, dear reader.
